Biography
Claudia Schiffer was born on August 25, 1970 in Rheinberg Germany. She began modeling in 1987, after being spotted in a nightclub in Düsseldorf. Weeks later she appeared in Elle magazine. Within a short time she modeled for the famous design house Chanel. In the early 1990s she became one of the first Guess? girls in the United States. She has also modeled for Victoria's Secret and was one of their original "Angels." She also ventured into acting and has appeared in a number of motion pictures and TV shows. She has appeared in the following movies, Richie Rich in 1994, The Blackout in 1997, Desperate But Not Serious in 1999, Friends & Lovers in 1999, Black and White in 1999, Life without Dick in 2001 and In Pursuit in 2001.
On the personal front, Schiffer was engaged to magician David Copperfield for eleven years. The two ended their long time relationship in 2001. On May 25, 2002 she married film producer Matthew de Vere Drummond. It was reported at the time of their marriage that one day she could become the Countess of Oxford because her father-in-law was in line of succession to the Earldom of Oxford. It was later realized that she would not make Countess status for two reasons, first, her husband was an illegitimate child born out of wedlock which would bar him from any succession and secondly George Harley Drummond, her father-in-law, is not in line for succession as he is not descended from the male line. Claudia and Matthew have two children together, a son born in 2003 and a daughter in 2004.
She has become a savvy business woman in addition to being one of the first supermodels of the 1990's. She and several other models opened a chain of cafés called, what else? Fashion Café. The Cafés currently have six locations in the US, Europe, Indonesia and Manila and also sell fashion merchandise from the website. Her co-owners in the venture are Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Elle Macpherson.
