Biography Also known as J-Lo, Jennifer Lopez is a successful American dancer, actress, and singer. With her classic Latin beauty and personality, she is rated as one of the sexiest women in the world. She was born in a Puerto Rican family in New York, on July 24, 1969. Her father was a computer programmer and her mother a kindergarten teacher. She maintains that she got the strong work ethics from her parents. J-Lo always wanted to be a performer and has made it on her own with a lot of hard work. She started taking dancing and singing lessons at the age of five. She soon started performing in stage shows. She made her film debut at the age of 16 with a small role in My Little Girl. At 18, she left home and worked in a law firm in the day, took dance classes, and gave dance performances at nights in Manhattan clubs. After working as a dancer in various rap artists' music videos, Lopez got her first break when she was cast as a "Fly Girl" dancer on the television comedy series, In Living Color in 1991. She followed this up with appearances in music videos of Janet Jackson and Puff Daddy. After a series of small roles on television and films, Lopez was first noticed in 1995 for her role in the Latin drama My Family and opposite Wesley Snipes in Money Train. But it was only the lead role in Selena in 1997 that made her a star. The movie was about a Latin singer who was murdered by a crazy fan in 1995. She gave a compelling performance and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. At the wrap up party for Selena, her then boyfriend, Ojani Noa proposed to her in the midst of the dance floor and they got married in 1997. This was her first marriage but lasted only a year. She soon appeared in Out of Sight (1997) with George Clooney that made her one of the top paid Latin Actresses in Hollywood. She next starred in the science-fiction thriller, The Cell (2000), which opened at the number one spot, a first for Lopez. The role in Selena inspired Lopez to go back to her musical roots and embark on her singing career. She released her first album, On the 6 in 1999. It went platinum and had the hit singles If you had my Love, Waiting for Tonight, and Feelin' So Good. Following this, she resumed her music career and in 2001, released the hit single Love Don't Cost a Thing that made her a household name around the world. Her movie Wedding Planner was also released the same week and did well. The same year, she got married for the second time to Cris Judd, a backup dancer she met while filming Love Don't Cost A Thing. They split in less than a year. Lopez went on to produce hit after hit including I'm Real, Jenny from the Block and All I Have. However, her acting career was on a downward curve with Angel Eyes (2001), Enough (2002), Maid in Manhattan (2002), and Gigli (2003) till some moderate success with Monster-in-Law (2005). Shortly after her much publicized relationship with Ben Afleck, Lopez started dating Latin pop singer Marc Anthony and married him in June 2004. Her fourth album, Rebirth was released the next year but received moderate success. Her success might have peaked but Lopez is always trying out new avenues. She produced Bordertown, a thriller in which she starred opposite Antonio Banderas and a reality show, Moves on MTV. Links start | next links Feelin' So...
