Biography Demetria Gene Guynes, better known as Demi, was born on November 11, 1962 in the town of space ship fame, Roswell, New Mexico. She had a very difficult childhood, as both of her parents were alcoholics. Her biological father left her mother before she was born. Her mother married a man named Danny Guynes and thus the name appeared on her birth certificate. Danny Guynes turned out to be no better than her biological father. He often changed jobs and forced the small family to move over forty times while Demi was growing up. He and her mother also would beat each other in drunken rages. The family ended up in Los Angels, California in 1976. Demi was then sixteen years old. Her friend, actress Nastassja Kinski, convinced her to quit school and try acting and modeling. She took this advice and began modeling in Europe. Her stepfather committed suicide in 1980. Her name changed from Demetria Guynes to Demi Moore when she married musician Freddy Moore in 1980. She switched from modeling to acting by making her film debut in the Si-fi movie Parasite in 1982. From there she took a role on the popular TV soap General Hospital in 1982; she played the part of Jackie Templetion. She only stayed at GH for one year, however, and left the show in 1983. In 1984 she landed a role in No Small Affair and her breakout role came a year later, 1985, in St. Elmo's Fire. She had, by that time, picked up a terrible cocaine and drinking habit and was thrown off the set until she could get clean. She checked into rehab and returned to the set a week later, clean and willing to sign a contract to that effect. Ironically, her character in that movie was also a cocaine addict. She divorced her then husband Freddy Moore that same year. She starred in many blockbuster movies after St. Elmo's, including, About Last Night, Ghost, The Butcher's Wife, A Few Good Men, and Indecent Proposal. This last film, which was released in 1993, was quite controversial at the time because of its subject matter. While she was already well known, the film shot her to superstardom and she became one of the highest paid actresses of the 1990's, earning in excess of 10 million dollars per film. Like many actresses, her personal life has been a series of ups and downs. After her divorce from Freddy Moore she became engaged in 1987 to Emilio Estevez after dating him two years. The two did not walk down the aisle though. She then entered a controversial marriage with actor and musician Bruce Willis. The two married on November 1987 after dating for only three months. The couple stayed together a long time, by Hollywood standards. They were married thirteen years and had three daughters together; Rumer born in 1998, Scout born in 1991 and Tallulah born in 1994. The couple divorced in 2000. Five years later she married Ashton Kutcher, which caused more controversy than her second marriage to Bruce. Kutcher is sixteen years her junior, which seemed to entertain the tabloids for quite some time. Demi continues to act and filmed the star studded motion picture Bobby with ex-fiancé Emilio Estevez.
