Biography
Teri Hatcher is an American actress who won the Best Actress in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe Award in 2005 for her role as Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives. In 1997, Hatcher was voted "Sexiest Woman in the World" in a poll by the readers of the For Him Magazine.
Teri was born on December 8, 1964 in California. Her father was a physicist and her mother a computer programmer. She had all plans to follow in their footsteps and had even enrolled for an undergraduate program in Mathematics and Engineering at De Anza College. However, fate had other plans for her. She got interested in acting and joined the American Conservatory Theatre while pursuing her degree.
She got her first break on television in 1984 by accident. Hatcher had accompanied a friend for an audition and ended up with a role as Amy, a singing and dancing Mermaid on the television series The Love Boat.
After some minor television roles, Hatcher got her first starring role in the movie The Big Picture (1989). This was followed by supporting roles in films such as Tango and Cash (1989) with Sylvester Stallone, Soap Dish (1991) with Whoopi Goldberg, and Straight Talk (1992) with Dolly Parton. In 1988, Teri got married for the first time to her personal trainer Markus Leithold. However, the marriage lasted only 10 months.
It was in 1993 that she finally achieved mass recognition with her role as Lois opposite Dean Cain in the television series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. It was as part of this role that she appeared in one of the most downloaded photograph of 1990s. In this photograph, she was shown wearing nothing except the Superman's cape.
The series Lois & Clark had a four year run and established her as a star. Teri then worked in film roles ranging from Heaven's Prisoners (1996) and 2 Days In The Valley (1996) to the James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). Teri also worked in Spy Kids (2001), as a spokesperson for Radio Shack and in made-for-TV films, Jane Doe (2001), Say Uncle (2001) and Momentum (2003). She however gained more recognition with her television appearances as Jerry's large-breasted girlfriend on Seinfeld (1998) and as the lovelorn single mom Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives (2004).
In 1994, Teri got married for the second time to actor Jon Tenney (who was seen in You Can Count On Me). In 1997, their first child, a daughter named Emerson Rose, was born. In 2003, Teri filed for divorce and became a single parent sharing the custody of her daughter. She claimed in 2006 that she was sexually abused since the age of 5 by her uncle, which affected her relationships with men.
