Biography Kirstie Alley is an Emmy award winning American actress. She is best known for her role as Rebecca Howe in the comedy Cheers. She is also known for her roles as Diane Barrows in It Takes Two and as Molly, a single mother opposite John Travolta in the films Look Who's Talking, Look Who's Talking Too, and Look Who's Talking Now. Kirstie Louise Alley was born on January 12, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas to Robert Deal Alley and Lillian Mickie. While at school in Wichita Southeast High School, she became a cheerleader. After attending college at Kansas State University and the University of Kansas for a year, she quit studies to pursue a career in acting. Kirstie first appeared as a contestant on game shows like Match Game (1979) and Password Plus in 1980. In 1982, Kirstie got her first break when she was cast as Vulcan officer Lieutenant Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. She apparently turned down playing the role in the sequel to the film because she wanted to avoid being typecast as a science fiction actress and wasn't paid as per her expectations. In 1987, Kirstie got her big break when she landed the role of the neurotic corporate executive Rebecca Howe on the popular sitcom Cheers. She played the role till 1993 and won an Emmy award in 1991 for her performance. Meanwhile, Kirstie became all the more popular when she starred in the film Look Who's Talking (1989). The film was a huge success making more than $100 million and had two sequels, Look Who's Talking Too (1990) and Look Who's Talking Now (1993). In 1994, Kirstie played the titular role in the made-for-television film David's Mother for which she won her second Emmy award. In 1997, Kirstie played the lead role in the sitcom, Veronica's Closet. She played the role for three years and was reportedly paid $150,000 per episode and $2 million as up-front fees. In 1997, Kirstie played a serious role as a psychiatrist in Woody Allen's film Deconstructing Harry. She gave a terrific performance proving her acting skills. In 2005, Kirstie starred in the sitcom Fat Actress. She was over 200 lbs. during the making of the sitcom. The next year, she lost over 75 lbs. with the help of Jenny Craig weight-loss program. In 2006, she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show to show her weight loss. On the personal front, Kirstie married actor Parker Stevenson in 1983. However, they split in 1997 and share joint custody of their children. They have two adopted children, William True and Lillie Price. Stevenson received a hefty $6,000,000 (USD) settlement. Kirstie has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to the motion picture industry.
