Biography
Vanessa Marcil is an American television actress. She is best known for her role as Brenda Barrett in the television series General Hospital as well as her role in the series Las Vegas.
Originally named Sally Vanessa Ortiz, Vanessa was born on October 15, 1969 in Indio, California. She is the youngest in her family and has three siblings. By the time she was eight years old, she started acting in a local theater in Palm Desert.
After graduating from high school, Vanessa studied law. However, it was acting that was her passion and decided to make a career out of it. She appeared in many plays, including Neil Simon's Fools, Pygmalion, The Miracle Worker, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Southern Rapture, and Sweet Bird of Youth.
In 1992, Vanessa got her big break when she landed the role of Brenda Barrett in the popular daytime television series General Hospital. She played the role for six consecutive years and later returned in 2000 to play the same character.
Her role in the long-running series General Hospital made her a celebrity. In 1995, she was featured as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" in People magazine.
Vanessa received the Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1997 and 1998. She received the Hottest Female Star Award at the 1997 Soap Opera Digest Awards and a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1998.
Meanwhile, Vanessa made her film debut in 1996 with a starring role in The Rock opposite Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery, and Ed Harris. She next starred in the made-for-television film To Love, Honor, and Deceive (1996).
In 1997, Vanessa appeared in a recurring guest role on the primetime series High Incident. That year, she also starred in the film 976-Wish.
In 1998, Vanessa left the soap General Hospital. She then started appearing as a vixen on the popular primetime series Beverly Hills, 90210. She was on the show till 2000.
While working on Beverly Hills, 90210, Vanessa acted in the films Nice Guys Sleep Alone (1999) and This Space Between Us (2000). In 2002, she acted in the film Storm Watch. However, all these films did not do well.
In 2002, Vanessa went back to television with the series General Hospital and worked on it for a year. She also started appearing in the series Las Vegas (2003-2006). On the personal front, Vanessa got married to actor Corey Feldman in 1989. However, they got divorced in 1991. In 2001, she got engaged to Brian Austin Green, her co-star on Beverly Hills, 90210. In March 2002, they had a son, Kassius Lijah Marcil-Green. However, they split in early 2003.
Vanessa has appeared in several magazines, including Stuff, For Him Magazine, and Maxim. She was ranked 19th on Maxim's Hot 100 of 2005 list.
