Biography
Alicia Silverstone was born on October 4, 1976 in San Francisco, California. Her father is British and her mother Scottish. Both of her parents are Jewish. Alicia was raised in Hillsborough, California. She is the youngest of three children in her immediate family. But she has a half sister and brother from her father's previous marriage as well. Her father launched her modeling career when he took photos of the then six year old Alicia and sent them off to a modeling agency. From these she made several commercials.
She also won the role of Kevin's "Dream Girl" on the hit TV series The Wonder Years. From there she got a leading role in the 1993 film The Crush. She won two MTV movie awards for her role in the movie. She had herself emancipated from her family when she was fifteen so that she would be able to work the hours needed to film the movie. She was famous for a long time as the "Aerosmith Chick" and for the three music videos she performed in for that group. The three songs that spurred the videos were, Cryin, Crazy, and Amazing. The songs and the videos were very popular and helped put her on the radar of fans and critics.
Her big motion picture break came with the movie Clueless. It did well at the box-office and Alicia became very well known after the film was released. This led to a three picture contract with Tri-Star. Her first movie to be released in the three picture deal was Excess Baggage. It was a commercial and critical flop. The movie did so poorly that TriStar allowed her picture deal to expire. Around the same time she stared in Batman and Robin as Batgirl. She was taunted by the tabloids for gaining weight even though she was not heavy by normal standards, by Hollywood standards she was considered overweight. After her production deal ended and with the bad reviews of Batman, very few people would hire her in the movie industry.
Silverstone seems happy to be out of the limelight, however, and has verbally spoken out against the horrors of fame and being in the public eye. She married long time boyfriend Christopher Jarecki on June 11, 2005.
