Biography
Anna Nicole Smith was an American model and actress. She is best known for being the 1993 Playmate of the Year and for her marriage to an 89-year-old billionaire. She is also known for starring in her own reality television show.
Originally named Vickie Lynn Hogan, Anna was born on November 28, 1967 in Houston, Texas to Donald Eugene Hogan and Virgie Mae Tabers. When she was a baby, her parents got divorced and her mother and aunt raised her. Young Anna wanted to be the next Marilyn Monroe.
In 1985, at the age of 17, Anna got married to Billy Smith, a cook in the restaurant where she worked as a waitress. She soon gave birth to a son, Daniel but the marriage also came to an end. To make ends meet, she did odd jobs such as waitress, salesgirl, and even as exotic dancer in topless bars. It was then that she changed her name to Anna Nicole.
After some silicon implants, Anna got her first break when she took part in the Playboy Cover Contest in 1991. In March 1992, at the age of 24, she appeared on the cover of Playboy. In May that year, she posed nude in the magazine under the name Vickie Smith. She went on to appear regularly in the magazine and become one of its most popular models. In 1993, she became Playmate of the Year and since then used the name Anna Nicole Smith. Anna next landed a contract as a Guess? model replacing supermodel Claudia Schiffer in the Guess? jeans ad campaign.
In 1994, Anna made her film debut with the comedy, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. She next worked in another comedy The Hudsucker Proxy, starring Tim Robbins.
In 1995, Anna did her first starring role as Colette Dubois, a retired spy trying to avenge the murder of her husband, in the action/thriller To the Limit (1995).
Meanwhile in 1994, Anna married the 89- year old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II. He died the next year and her career stalled as she was involved in inheritance cases. She was not mentioned in any will but said that Howard offered half his estate if she married him.
In 1996, Anna was sued for sexual harassment by her former female assistant. She then filed for bankruptcy.
In 1997, Anna starred in and produced the action film Skyscraper.
In 2002, Anna appeared in her own reality show The Anna Nicole Show on the E! channel. Though she was overweight, her fans tuned in to watch her absurd antics. In the second season, she reportedly lost more than 60 pounds. However, in August 2004, the show was canceled.
In 2003, Anna appeared as herself in the film Wasabi Tuna. She also appeared as herself in Be Cool (2005), a crime/comedy starring John Travolta and Uma Thurman. In 2006, Anna starred in and produced the sci-fi/comedy Illegal Aliens.
On the personal front, Anna married her personal attorney, Howard K. Stern in September 2006 after the birth of their daughter, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern. Unfortunately, Anna's 20-year-old son, Daniel Wayne Smith died suddenly while visiting his mother in the hospital after the birth of her daughter. The baby was born just three days earlier.
Anna Nicole Smith died unexpectedly February 8, 2007.
