Videos more videos Biography Geri Halliwell is a British pop singer and songwriter. She is best-known as Ginger Spice, a member of the girl band Spice Girls. Geraldine Estelle Halliwell was born on August 6, 1972 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. Her mother, Anne-Marie is Spanish and her father, Lawrence is of Swedish, French, and English descent. Before making it big, Geri worked in various odd jobs to make ends meet. She worked as a cleaner, barmaid, and even a topless model. She also worked as a presenter of a Turkish game show. Geri got her big break when she answered an ad in the paper for an all-girl band. She along with Victoria Adams, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, and Emma Bunton went on to form the all-girl band named Spice Girls. Together, they went on to become pop sensations in the 1990's. Their hits include Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, and 2 Become 1. Geri was the unofficial leader of the group and was known as Ginger Spice with her sexy costumes and loud behaviour. Riding the wave of popularity, Geri along with the other members of Spice Girls appeared in the movie Spice World in 1997. It included the hit tracks Spice Up Your Life, Too Much and Stop. In May 1998, Geri left the Spice Girls group to make it on her own. She was then made a United Nations ambassador. In 1999, she started out her solo music career with her debut solo album, Schizophonic. It included the singles Look at Me, Absolute, Mi Chico Latino and Lift Me Up, and Bag It Up which topped the UK pop charts. In 2001, Geri released her second album Scream If You Wanna Go Faster. It included a remake of the Weather Girls' 1983 hit, It's Raining Men. At the 2002 NRJ Music Awards, she won the International Song of the Year award for It's Raining Men. The song has also been used on the soundtrack of the film Bridget Jones's Diary and the video game, DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX. In 2002, Geri appeared as a judge alongside Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh on the UK television show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. In 2004, Geri released the hit single Ride It, which reached #4 on the UK charts and #1 on the dance charts. Her next song was Desire as part of her album Passion. However, the complete album was not released. In 2004, Geri also appeared in the popular HBO television series Sex and the City. She also appeared in Fat Slags (2004), a film based on characters from Viz Magazine. Geri gave birth to a daughter, Bluebell Madonna on May 14, 2006. Sacha Gervasi, British scriptwriter and former drummer with the band Bush, is reported to be the father.
