Biography
Ashlee Simpson is an American pop singer and actress. She is the younger sister of pop star Jessica Simpson and is better known as Cecilia on the television series, 7th Heaven. She rose to stardom and came out of her sister's shadow with her hit album, Autobiography and its accompanying reality show, The Ashlee Simpson Show. Ashlee Nicole Simpson was born in Waco, Texas on October 3, 1984. She started dancing when she was just four. When she was just 11 years old, she got admission in the prestigious School of American Ballet and was the youngest person ever admitted to the school.
Ashlee started dancing professionally when she was 14 and danced for her sister, Jessica's stage shows.
In 2001, Ashlee made her television debut in a small role on Malcolm in the Middle. She also appeared with her sister on many shows including Saved by the Bell, The Donny & Marie Show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, The View, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
In 2002, Ashlee made her film debut with a small role in the comedy, The Hot Chick, starring Rob Schneider.
In 2002, she got the role of Cecilia Smith, girlfriend of Simon Camden on the popular television drama 7th Heaven. This role catapulted her to stardom and she started taking acting lessons from Janet Alhanti. Though, she had proved that she could act, what she really wanted to do was sing. She tried to gain some singing experience by recording songs for the Freaky Friday soundtrack when her shooting was not scheduled. In late 2003, Ashlee finally got a singing break when she signed a recording contract with Geffen Records for her first album. Her father, who produces Jessica Simpson's Newlyweds reality show on MTV, offered to make a reality show about the making of her upcoming album.
In 2004, The Ashlee Simpson Show premiered on MTV and it documented the entire process of making the album Autobiography. The reality show helped a lot in her album going straight to number one, a feat even her sister, Jessica hadn't accomplished.
Her luck didn't last long. In October that year, during a performance on Saturday Night Live, she was caught using pre-recorded vocals. Her popularity waned and her credibility as a talented singer dipped. In January 2005, during her performance at the halftime show for the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, she was booed.
However, Ashlee Simpson didn't give up and in 2005, came back with her second album, I am me featuring the hits Boyfriend and L.O.V.E. However, she still has a long way to go before she can floor her critics who say her hits are manufactured by heavy rotation on MTV.
