Joanna Levesque is an American singer, actress, songwriter, and record producer of Native American, Irish, Polish, and French ancestry. She is also known by her stage name JoJo. She is best known for her singles Leave (Get Out) and Baby It's You.

Joanna Levesque was born on December 20, 1990 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Her father, Joel Levesque was a blues singer and her mother, Diana, sang in a church choir. Joanna picked up their singing genes and started singing nursery rhymes and pop songs when she was just two. However, when Joanna was just four years old, her parents got divorced and she lived with her mother in New Jersey.

In 1996 when Joanna was 6, she got her first break when she was selected from an audition to perform her rendition of Respect on Kids Say the Darndest Things hosted by Bill Cosby. Her performance was so impressive that she was soon got offers to appear on many shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Rosie O'Donnell Show. She also performed at events including a Celtics game and the Republican National Convention.

However, Joanna was having a hard time in her life. Her mother worked as a cleaning lady to make ends meet. They lived in a shabby one-bedroom apartment. To top this, she was quite lonely at school as her schoolmates were jealous of her.

In 2002, Joanna took part in the television show America's Most Talented Kids. Although she did not win, someone in the audience noticed her performance and went on to introduce her to producer Vincent Herbert. Joanna then signed a multi-album contract with Blackground Records.

Joanna started working on her debut album JoJo in the summer of 2003. She wrote three of the 14 songs in the album. The album was released in June 2004 when she was just 13, and overnight she became a celebrity. It included the songs Baby It's You and Leave (Get Out) that made it to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 40 and she became the youngest singer to achieve that. She also broke Britney Spears' record as the youngest singer to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also won the nomination for an MTV Video Music Award as Best New Artist. Her album was certified gold.

Joanna next toured Europe as the opening act for Usher. She also performed the song Secret Love for the Shark Tale soundtrack.

In 2004, Joanna played the role of young Linda Ronstadt on the television show American Dreams.

In 2006, Joanna released her second album, The High Road. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200. That year, she also acted on the films Aquamarine and RV.

On the personal front, Joanna dated D.C. United soccer player Freddy Adu but split after a year in 2006.
