Videos more videos Biography Dave Batista, better known simply by his ring name Batista, is an American professional wrestler. He is one of the biggest superstars with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). David Michael Bautista, Jr. was born on January 18, 1969. He is of Greek and Filipino heritage. He grew up in the tough neighborhoods of Washington D.C. and Virginia and was in and out of trouble during his childhood. At the age of 13, he had a brush with the law for his involvement in automobile theft. His first jobs were as a bouncer with various clubs. His first attempt to join the world of professional wrestling was when he tried at the WCW Power Plant. However, he was turned away. Batista then went to the WWF (now WWE). The organization sent him to Afa Anoai's WXW promotion where he wrestled under the name Kahn. In 2000, he made his Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) debut as Leviathan. He appeared as a member of the Disciples of Synn stable and was undefeated for a long time. Batista eventually went on to win the OVW Heavyweight Championship from 'The Machine' Doug Basham. In 2002, Batista was sold to Reverend D-Von to begin his WWE career. Batista made his WWE debut on May 9, 2002 episode of SmackDown! as Deacon Bautista. His initial matches were as the tag team partner of D-Von. He soon split with D-Von and went to RAW and where he adopted his more popular name, Dave Batista. He made his pay-per-view debut at Armageddon 2002 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in a match against Kane. In January 2003, Batista joined Evolution with Triple H, Ric Flair, and Randy Orton. However, through most of the year he was out of action on account of injuries. He tore his right tricep in a match and again aggravated the injury when he fell while jogging with his wife. It was only in October 2003 that he finally made a comeback in RAW. At Armageddon 2003, Batista won his first WWE title when he won the World Tag Team Championship along with Ric Flair. Batista played the heel for next couple of years doing Triple-H's bidding and contributing to malicious plotlines involving Evolution. However, by the beginning of 2005, Batista had become a crowd favorite. He won the Royal Rumble event in that year and went ahead to secure the World Heavyweight Championship on April 3, 2005 at WrestleMania 21. Batista moved to SmackDown! in June 2005. In January 2006, Batista again tore his right tricep in a match and was forced to vacate his World Heavyweight Championship. However, he had already surpassed Triple H's record of 280 days as longest reigning champion by the time he vacated the Championship. Batista returned to the ring in July 2006 and regained the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating King Booker at Survivor Series 2006. Apart from wrestling Batista has appeared in small television and movie roles. He guest starred in the eighth episode of Season 6 of the CW Network television series Smallville, playing a villain named Aldar from the Phantom Zone.
