Videos more videos Biography Traci Lords is an American actress and singer more famous as the underage porn star who in 1986 became the cause of a much-publicized legal fight between the federal authorities and the pornographic film and distribution industry. She is also known as Traci Elizabeth Lords. Originally named Nora Louise Kuzma, Traci Lords was born on May 7, 1968, in Steubenville, Ohio. When she was 12, she along with her mother and three sisters fled from her abusive, alcoholic father to Lawndale, California. In 1984, at the tender age of 15, she entered the porn industry through Jim South's World Modeling Agency (for adult movies). She used a friend's sister's birth certificate to show that she was a 22-year-old adult. She also assumed the name on the certificate-Kristie Elizabeth Nussman. Starting with her relatively modest first film What Gets Me Hot! (1984), over the next three years, Traci moved to increasingly graphic films. Traci's youthful looks and enthusiastic performances earned her huge popularity. Soon, she was modeling for popular adult magazines, most notably Penthouse. By the time she turned 18, she had starred in more than 100 porn films including hits like Open Up Traci, Two Timing Traci, Sex Fifth Avenue, and Holly Does Hollywood. However, her luck ran out in 1986 when federal authorities discovered that she was underage while making movies. Traci along with the owners of her movie agency was soon arrested. To avoid the risk of prosecution for trafficking child pornography, hundreds of thousands of Traci's videotapes, films, and magazines were removed from store shelves. The losses to the porn industry ran into millions. Today, only one of her films, Traci, I Love You, produced after her eighteenth birthday is legally available in the United States. After this scandal, Traci moved away from porn and began studying at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute to make a career in mainstream acting. She soon starred in a remake of Roger Corman's cult movie Not of this Earth. In 1990, Traci was part of an impressive cast including Johnny Depp, Ricki Lake, and Iggy Pop, in John Waters' Cry Baby. In 1990, she also started her career as a singer by performing vocals for Manic Street Preachers on the single Little Baby Nothing. In 1995, Traci made her solo debut in the album 1000 Fires. A collaboration with Juno Reactor and Jesus Jones' Mike Edwards, the album was a hit with critics and club audiences. During the 90s, Traci acted in A-grade movies like Blade, Extramarital, Black Mask 2:City of angels, and Chump Change. In 2001, she won the Best Actress Award at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival for Chump Change. Besides acting in movies, Traci has also appeared in various TV shows such as Married... with Children, Highlander, Tales from the Crypt, Gilmore Girls, and Will & Grace. She also appeared in the Francis Ford Coppola produced sci-fi series First Wave (2000-2001). Another facet of the multi-talented Traci was revealed when she published her autobiography, Traci Lords: Underneath It All in 2003. The book made the New York Times bestseller list. The same year, Traci wrote and directed a short film Sweet Pea with Fox Searchlab. The film was screened at various film festivals in 2005. In 2004, Traci returned to the music scene with an independently produced recording, Sunshine. From being the first porn queen of US to an acclaimed author and singer, Traci has apparently done it all. But, given her past records, she might still have some aces up her sleeve.
