Biography

Ciara Harris is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. She is known for her songs Goodies, 1, 2 Step and has won four Grammy Awards in 2006.

Ciara Princess Harris was born on October 25, 1985 in Austin, Texas. Her father is in the US Army and she was raised in army bases in Germany, New York, California, Arizona, and Nevada. Her family finally settled in Atlanta and she went to school there.

It was while watching Destiny's Child perform on television that Ciara decided to be a singer. She was so focused on a being a singer soon that she cut down on most of her daily activities such as talking on phone and going to movies. She even broke up with her boyfriend.

Ciara soon joined the girl band called Hearsay. However, when she realized that the band wasn't doing anything for her, she left it to go solo. She soon got a recording deal. She got her big break when she met producer Jazze Pha who helped her launch her music career.

In 2004, Ciara released her debut single Goodies. The song is about female empowerment with lines like "If you're looking for the goodies keep on looking 'cause they stay in the jar". The song not only topped US pop charts but also got her into international spotlight. The single, which she co-wrote with Sean Garret, won her the 2005's Soul Train Music Award for R&B-Soul or Rap New Artist shared with Petey Pablo.

Ciara released her debut album Ciara: Goodies that year. It includes the hit singles 1, 2 Step featuring Missy Elliot and Oh featuring Ludacris.

In 2005, Ciara featured on the hit number Lose Control by Missy Elliott. She also sang with her then boyfriend, Shad Gregory Moss aka Bow Wow in the hit Like You on the album Wanted.

Ciarra also toured in the winter of 2005. She joined Gwen Stefani on her "Harajuku Lovers Tour". She followed it up with the "Holladay Jam" tour with Bow Wow and Chris Brown at cities like New York and Atlanta.

She was nominated for 4 BET Awards in 2005, including Best Collaboration, Best Female R&B, Best New Artist and BET.com Viewer's Choice. She was awarded the 2005 Sammy Davis, Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year - Female.

It was in 2006 that Ciara hit big time when she won her first Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video along with Missy Elliott for Lose Control. She also won the Grammies for Best New Best Artist, Best Rap/Song Collaboration for 1, 2 Step, and Best Rap Song for Lose Control. Ciara has achieved her dreams at the young age of 20 and has the potential to go for much more.
