Biography

John Cena or Jonathan Felix Anthony Cena, Jr. is an American professional wrestler with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He is known for his rapper look of baggy jean shorts and a throwback jersey. He not only sports the look but also has some successful rap singles to his credit.

John Cena was born on April 23, 1977 in the quiet town of West Newbury, Massachusetts. His father, John Cena Sr., had been associated with professional wrestling business. He worked as Johnny Fabulous, an announcer for New England based Chaotic Wrestling and also acted as "commissioner" for East Coast Championship Wrestling. His father's profession was influential in making Cena a huge WWE fan. When he attended events at the old Boston Garden, he dreamed of making it big inside the ring.

From a very young age, Cena had been dedicated to physical training. He graduated from Springfield College with a degree in exercise physiology. During college, he was a football star and also developed his rapping skills.

After college, Cena pursued a career in bodybuilding. When it didn't work out, he went into the wrestling profession. Cena wrestled on minor circuits and was called Prototype in Ultimate Pro Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling.

Cena broke into the WWE scene in 2002 on Smackdown in response to an open challenge by Kurt Angle. He came very close to defeating Angle and was instantly recognized and acclaimed. He built his image with rapping about other wrestlers and developing catchy trademark phrases like "You Can't See Me" and "If You Want Some, Come Get Some!". He is also known for his signature finishing maneuver, F-U.

In 2004, he rose to stardom when he defeated The Big Show to win the WWE United States Championship. There was no looking back for him now. At October's No Mercy, he won the title back in a Best-of-5 series match with Booker T. However, he soon lost the title to Carlito in SmackDown! This was followed by a feigned attack on Cena which kept him out of action for a month so that he could shoot for his film debut in Marine.

The next year in 2005, at WrestleMania, Cena defeated John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) to become the WWE champion. In the June Draft Lottery, Cena was drafted from WWE Smackdown! to WWE RAW.

His popularity rose to new heights when he released his debut rap album, You Can't See Me. It featured his entrance theme song, The Time is Now. The album also featured guest appearances from Esoteric and Freddie Foxxx (aka Bumpy Knuckles).

In 2006, Cena defended his WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber at the New Years Revolution. The sky is the limit for the multi-talented Cena and no one can really predict what he can achieve.
