Videos more videos Biography Evangeline Lilly is a Canadian actress. She is best known for her role as Katherine Austen in the hit television drama Lost. She has also received a Golden Globe nomination for the role. Nicole Evangeline Lilly was born on August 3, 1979 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. Her father works as a home economics teacher and her mother acts as a beauty consultant. Her parents are devout Christians and Evangeline was also influenced by their beliefs. She briefly worked as a foreign missionary in Philippines where she lived in a grass hut. Since she was just 14, she has acted as a volunteer for children's projects. While she was studying international relations at the University of British Columbia, she founded and ran a world development and human rights committee. An agent from the Ford modeling agency discovered her on the streets of Kelowna, British Columbia. However, she turned down their offer in favor of her charity work. Evangeline briefly worked as an airline hostess and waitress. She eventually signed a modeling contract with Ford modeling agency so that she could pay for her tuition fees. She soon appeared in several LiveLinks Chatline television commercials. In 2002, Evangeline made her television debut with a small guest role in the television series Judgment Day. That year, she also appeared in guest roles in the television series Smallville and Kinetic. In 2003, Evangeline made her film debut as a model in a commercial in the film Stealing Sinatra. She also appeared in an uncredited role that year as a high-school student leaning against a locker in the film Freddy vs. Jason. Evangeline's work on television continued in 2003 with more small guest roles that did not even have a dialogue. She appeared in the television series Tru Calling and Morning After. In 2004, Evangeline appeared in a guest role in the supernatural horror television series Kingdom Hospital. However, her luck changed when Evangeline was cast in her first speaking role and also her first major role in the television series Lost. She starred as Katherine (Kate) Austen in the series that went on to be a hit. That year in 2004, Entertainment Weekly voted her as one of the Breakout Stars of 2004. In 2006, for her role in Lost, she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Lead Actress-Drama. Since her success with Lost, Evangeline has appeared in many television shows including Late Show with David Letterman (in 2004), Good Morning America (in 2005), Live with Regis (in 2005 and 2006), and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (in 3 episodes during 2005-2006). In 2005, Evangeline has appeared as Simone in the film The Long Weekend. On the personal front, Evangeline was at a time married to Canadian hockey player Murray Hone.
