Biography
Jessica Simpson is an American pop singer and actress. She is best known for her hits Think I'm In Love With You and Irresistible, and for being featured on the reality show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica.
Jessica Ann Simpson was born on July 10, 1980 in Dallas, Texas to parents Joe Truett Simpson and Tina Ann Drew. Her father was a psychologist who also worked as a youth minister in the local Baptist church in Richardson town. Jessica was highly talented in singing and it was but natural that she sang in the choir.
When Jessica was just 12, she took part in the audition for Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club where she reached the finals. Unfortunately, she choked and could not perform.
Jessica went back to her choir singing. Soon after, a small label called Proclaim Records recognized her talent and signed her on for an album of gospel songs. She recorded the album but bad luck struck again. Before they could release the album, the label went bankrupt.
However, Jessica and her father Joe did not give up. Her father who was now her manager took Jessica to perform on the Christian Youth Concert circuit and promote her album. Her album sold well and received great reviews from Christian music fans as well as pop music fans.
Tommy Mottola of Columbia Records/Sony Music was impressed with Jessica's talent and offered her a recording contract. In 1999, Jessica released her debut album Sweet Kisses that included the singles I Wanna Love You Forever and I Think I'm In Love With You. The album reached #25 on the US Billboard 200.
Jessica soon toured with the boy band 98 Degrees and fell in love with Nick Lachey, a member of 98 Degrees. They released the duet Where You Are and their romance helped in its promotion.
In 2000, Jessica won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Breakout Artist as well as Love Song of the Year for Where You Are. That year, she also appeared in the video of the 98 Degrees song My Everything.
In 2001, Jessica released her second album Irresistible. The title song reached No. 3 on the Top 40 mainstream chart.
In 2002, Jessica and Nick got married and their marriage became the top story. MTV offered them a reality show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica based on their life as a couple. The show (2003-2005) went on to become a big hit and Jessica became a celebrity. The couple also featured in the television show The Nick and Jessica Variety Hour.
Jessica released her third album In This Skin in 2003 and her television success boosted her record sales. The album included the hits Sweetest Sin and With You.
In 2005, Jessica made her film debut in Daisy Dukes. The film's soundtrack, These Boots Are Made for Walkin became a smash hit. Late that year, she filed for divorce.
Soon after in 2006, Jessica released her fourth album, A Public Affair. She also appeared in her second film Employee of the Month.
