Videos more videos Biography Usher Raymond is an American R&B and pop singer, dancer, and actor. He has won five Grammy awards and is best-known for his songs You Make Me Wanna, U Got It Bad, U Don't Have To Call, and Yeah. In 2002, he became the third artist after Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder to win the Best Male R&B Vocal Grammy award in consecutive years. Usher Raymond IV was born on October 14, 1978 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His mother, Jonetta Patton was the prime influence in his life. She used to lead the church choir and when Usher was just six years old, he also started singing in the choir. When he was 12, his family shifted to Atlanta. Usher got his first break when he was just 14. A record representative from LaFace Records spotted his singing talent at a talent show and he was soon offered a contract. In 1994, LaFace Records released Usher's debut album titled Usher. It was executive produced by P. Diddy. The album was a moderate success with singles Can U Get Wit It, Think Of You, and The Many Ways. In 1995, Usher did a duet with R&B singer Monica on Let's Straighten It Out. It was in 1997 after graduating from high school that Usher first tasted real success when he released the album My Way. It included the platinum singles My Way and You Make Me Wanna. The latter single won him his first Grammy award nomination. Usher had now become a star and was featured in many shows on television. He also appeared in television series such as Moesha, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Promised Land. In 1998, he did an opening act for Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope Tour. In the same year, he made his film debut with the thriller, The Faculty. He went on to do more films including the high school comedy She's All That, Light It Up (starring role), and Texas Rangers with Ashton Kutcher. In 2001, Usher released the album 8701. The album includes hits such as U Got It Bad and U Don't Have To Call. The album has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide. The song U Remind Me won him the Grammy award for the Best Male R&B Vocal in 2002; and U Don't Have To Call won the same award the next year. In 2004, Usher released his album, Confessions. The album has also become successful with hits like Yeah!, Burn, and Confessions Part II. In 2005, Usher won three Grammy awards, including "R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals" for My Boo with Alicia Keys, "Rap/Sung Collaboration" for Yeah! and "Contemporary R&B Album" for the album Confessions.
