Biography
Claudia Black is an Australian actress. She is best known for her roles in the science fiction television series Farscape as Aeryn Sun and Stargate SG-1 as Vala Mal Doran.
Claudia Lee Black was born on October 11, 1972 in Sydney. She has been so secretive about her personal life that even her birth year is not officially certain.
By the time she was eighteen, Claudia had starred in many stage productions and was an accomplished stage actress. She has also worked with the Belvoir Street Theatre, a renowned Australian acting troupe. In 1990, Claudia played the role of Portia in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice that won her a nomination to the Globe Shakespeare Competition. She went on to reach the finals in the competition.
In 1993, Claudia made her television debut. She started her television career with small roles in Australian television productions like G.P. (1993), Police Rescue (1993) and the miniseries Seven Deadly Sins (1993).
Claudia next worked in the series A Country Practice (1993-94) and City Life (1996).
In 1997, Claudia acted as Karina in the television film Amazon High. She also did the role of Cassandra in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and played the same role in another episode the next year.
In 1998, Claudia played the role of a hermaphrodite in the popular Australian series, Good Guys Bad Guys.
In 1999, Claudia appeared in an episode as Morgana in the television series A Twist in the Tale.
That year, Claudio got her big break when Jim Henson Productions cast her in the role of officer Aeryn Sun on the science fiction series, Farscape (also known as Far Horizon in Australia). For her performance in Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars (2004), she won the 2005 Saturn Award for Best Actress. She also won four Saturn nominations.
In 2000, Claudia played the role of Amazon in an episode of the popular television series Xena: Warrior Princess.
In 2001, Claudia played the role of Huna in the television film BeastMaster.
Claudia has also done voice work for video games, such as Farscape: The Game (2002), Lords of Everquest (2003), and as Artemis in God of War (2005).
Claudia also appeared in some American films including Pitch Black (2000) starring Vin Diesel and Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned (2002).
In 2005, Claudia returned to television with a regular role as Vala Mal Doran on Stargate SG-1.
In 2001, Claudia adorned the cover of SFX magazine as the No. 1 candidate for the title of Sexiest Sci-Fi Babe. In 2004, Scifi WorldNet chose her as the seventh Hottest Scifi Babe.
On the personal front, Claudia got married in 2004 and gave birth to a baby boy in December 2005. She enjoys rollerblading and practices yoga in her spare time.
