Biography
Haley Joel Osment is an Oscar nominated American actor. He is best-known as a child actor and for his leading role in the 1999 thriller, The Sixth Sense. He is also known for his roles in the films Pay It Forward and A.I.
Haley Joel Osment was born on April 10, 1988 in Los Angeles to Theresa Seifert and Michael Eugene Osment. When Haley was just four years old, he started his acting career. He got his first break when he first appeared in a Pizza Hut commercial after an audition in a shopping mall. The same year in 1994, he made his television debut.
In 1994, he played the role of Forrest Gump's son in the cult film Forrest Gump. He followed this up with numerous roles on television and films. They include the television series Walker, Texas Ranger as a child dying from AIDS, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, and Murphy Brown as Murphy's out-of-wedlock child. He also enacted the role of a dying child in an episode of the popular series Ally McBeal in 1999.
In 1996, Halley starred alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Gérard Depardieu in Bogus.
In 1998, Haley played the role of Dylan Hydecker in the television film The Lake with Yasmine Bleeth.
However, it was in 1999 when he was just 11 years old that Haley got his big break into stardom when he played the lead role of Cole Sear in director M Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense, along with Bruce Willis. His terrific performance won him the Saturn Award for Best Young Actor as well as an Oscar nomination for the Best Supporting Actor.
In 2000, Haley appeared in the film Pay It Forward as Trevor McKinney. Haley gave a terrific performance in this mediocre and flop film.
In 2001, Haley was cast in a leading role in another blockbuster-Steven Spielberg's Artificial Intelligence: AI, which is the futuristic story of an android. This role established his status as one of the topmost young actors and also got him his second Saturn Award. Haley also proved that he was a versatile actor who can handle different and challenging roles.
Haley has also lent his vocals for a number of projects including as Sora in the video games series Kingdom Hearts, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, The Jungle Book II as Mowgli, and the comedy musical The Country Bears as Beary Barrington.
In 2003, Haley was cast as an introvert teenager in the film Secondhand Lions. His mother sends him to stay with his eccentric uncles in Texas where he grows into a responsible young man. There is reason enough to believe that the talented, young Haley would blossom into a successful adult actor.
