Biography
Heather Deen Locklear was born on September 25, 1961 in Westwood, California. She is the youngest of four children in her family. She began modeling while attending the University of California in Los Angeles. Her big break came in 1981 when she was cast in the popular TV series Dynasty. She simultaneously starred in another popular series, T.J. Hooker. She was known for her hard work and driven ambition. Dynasty lasted from 1981 to 1989 and T.J. Hooker from 1982 to 1986. She had a huge fan following from both shows.
After Hooker and Dynasty ended she took a role in another hugely popular series, Melrose Place which ran from 1993 to 1999. After Melrose Place had ended she started guest appearances on Spin City, a very popular comedy and critically acclaimed TV series. Eventually this led to a permanent role on the show, for which she was given great critical reviews as Michael J. Fox and later Charlie Sheen's nemesis from 1999 to 2000. Critics have hailed this as her best role to date and it marked her transition from dramatic, somewhat campy, soaps to intelligent comedy. Although this was a stretch many did not think she would be capable of she continually proved them wrong. She has been the spokeswoman and model for L'Oreal "Don't Hate me Because I'm Beautiful," hair color ads for many years and still appears in their TV commercials.
Her transition to motion pictures did not fare as well as her switch from soap drama to mainstream comedy. She was cast in Money Talks, Double Talk, Uptown Girls and The Perfect Man, among other films. None did very well with critics or in the box-office. Locklear was married to rocker Tommy Lee from 1986 to 1993. After their divorce she married another rocker Richie Sambora in 1994; the couple divorced in 2006.
