Biography Lil' Kim is a Grammy Award winning American rapper. She is best-known for her albums Hard Core (1996), Notorious K.I.M. (2000), and La Bella Mafia (2003) and her sexy appearances in music videos and public events. Kimberly Denise Jones was born on July 11, 1974 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. Lil' Kim had a troubled time ever since she was little. When she was just nine, her parents split up and she lived with her father. However, when she was a teenager, her father threw her out of the house. She then lived with her friends and sometimes had to live on the streets. Life changed for Lil' Kim when she met Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls or Notorious B.I.G. Wallace liked her rhyming skills and encouraged her to pursue a rapping career. He helped her in getting a spot on the band Junior M.A.F.I.A. Lil' Kim had a major role in the band's hit debut, Player's Anthem and the debut album, Conspiracy (1995). In 1996, Lil' Kim launched her solo career when she released her debut album, Hard Core. True to the album's title, Lil' Kim gave a hardcore rap performance with almost pornographic sexuality. The album became a big hit, reaching # 11 on the pop charts. It included the #1 rap single No Time featuring Sean "Puffy" Combs. Kim went on to win many awards for her album and became an instant success. However, Lil' Kim's blissful world shattered when Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls or Notorious B.I.G. was murdered on March 9th, 1997. Following this tragedy, Kim went into a deep depression. It was after a long time in 2000, that Lil' Kim came up with her next album Notorious K.I.M. The album went platinum. In 2001, Lil' Kim collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Mưa in a remake of Lady Marmalade for the Moulin Rouge film soundtrack. The song stayed for five weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also won her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. In 2003, Lil' Kim released her third album La Bella Mafia. The album went on to debut #5 on the Billboard charts. It included the hit The Jump Off featuring Mr. Cheeks, which reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the single Magic Stick featuring 50 Cent. Lil' Kim also forayed a little into acting. She made her film debut with a role in She's All That (1999). She followed this up with roles in Scary Movie (2000), Juwanna Mann (2002), Gang of Roses (2003), and You Got Served (2004). She also made a guest appearance in Pamela Anderson's television series, V.I.P. In 2005, Lil' Kim was convicted for a year for perjury in a case about a 2001 gunfight outside the Hot 97 radio station in SoHo. Her life before going to prison was documented in a reality show Countdown to Lockdown. While in prison, she released the album The Naked Truth which became a great hit. There is little that can stop Lil' Kim from making it big.
