Biography

Pink is an American rap singer and songwriter. She is best known for her songs There You Go, Most Girls, and Get the Party Started.

Originally named Alecia Moore, Pink was born on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Philadelphia listening to her father play Bob Dylan and Don McLean songs on the guitar. Not surprisingly, she loved music and loved to perform onstage whenever possible. When she was just 13, she got a chance from a DJ to provide back vocals to a rap group, Schools of Thought. She was soon singing a song every week in Philadelphia's Club Fever. When she was just 14, she started writing songs.

Pink got her first break when a representative spotted her singing at the Club Fever and recruited her as a member of the R&B group Basic Instinct. However, the group did not last long.

Pink then was recruited for a female R&B group called Choice, which again disbanded without releasing any singles. However, her songwriting ability helped her get her big break. While with the band Choice, Pink was asked by producer Daryl Simmons to write a part of the song Just to Be Loving You and the results she came up with were very impressive. This helped Pink rediscover her songwriting talent and approach the label LaFace's co-founder, L.A. Reid. An impressed Reid signed her for a contract with LaFace.

In 2000, when she was just 21, Pink released her solo debut album, Can't Take Me Home which won critical acclaim and was a double-platinum hit. Her first single from the album was There You Go, in which Pink raps about breakups, became a constant entry on Top 40 Pop chart. The other hit singles from the album include Most Girls and You Make Me Sick.

Pink then went on tour with N Sync and performed the opening act. However, she felt it didn't suit her. She then worked in the remake of Patti LaBelle's Lady Marmalade, which is featured on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. The song featured superstars such as Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil' Kim and topped both the U.S. and U.K pop charts.

Her next single, Get the Party Started from the album M!ssundaztood was a huge hit and climbed up the charts into the Top Five. The album was certified double platinum and had contributions from former 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry. The album's second single, Don't Let Me Get Me was also a big hit.

In 2003, Pink released her third album Try This. It included the hit Trouble which not only reached Billboard's Top 40 but also won Pink a Grammy award for the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

In 2006, Pink married motocross racer Carey Hart. She also released her next album, I'm Not Dead that year. With the hit single Stupid Girls, the album reached the Top Ten. Pink's future now seems rosy.
