Biography
Hunter Tylo is an American actress of Cherokee descent. She is best known for her role as Dr. Taylor Hamilton Hayes Forrester on the popular soap The Bold and the Beautiful.
Deborah Jo Hunter was born on July 3, 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas. She has three siblings, an older brother and sister as well as a younger brother. As a child, Hunter enjoyed training guard dogs and riding horses. She was a tomboy and wanted to be a veterinarian. As a teenager, she started modeling. She won a scholarship to attend the Texas Women's University. However, fate had other plans for her. She unexpectedly became pregnant and married Tom Morehart, the father of her baby in 1980 when she was just about eighteen. The marriage didn't last long and they got divorced in 1982.
Hunter then had to struggle to make a living for herself and her baby, Chris. She did odd jobs and minor roles in films to make ends meet. She was credited as Deborah Morehart in these films.
In 1985, Hunter got her first break when she was cast as Robin McCall in the television series All My Children. She played the love interest of Michael Tylo in the series as well as off-screen. She worked on the series for the next two years and got married to Tylo after leaving the series in 1987. Their first child, Mickey, was born a year later.
In 1989, Hunter came back as Marina Toscano Johnson on the soap Days of Our Lives. She played the role for a year. In 1990, she appeared in an episode of the series Zorro as well as in commercials for Nissan and Canada Dry.
Hunter got her big break when she was cast in 1990 as Dr. Taylor Hamilton on the popular soap, The Bold and the Beautiful. The role lasting for more than a decade made her a star. In 2002, she quit the soap when her character was supposedly murdered. She came back on the soap in 2005 with a twist in the plot when it was revealed that she was kidnapped and not killed.
Meanwhile, Hunter starred in the television miniseries The Maharaja's Daughter (1994) and also appeared in an episode of the popular series Baywatch in 1996.
In 1996, Hunter left The Bold and the Beautiful to join the series Melrose Place. However, she was fired before shooting because she was pregnant. She then sued the producers for discrimination and won nearly $5 million.
Meanwhile, Hunter returned to The Bold and the Beautiful in 1997, won the Soap Opera Update Best Actress award. She was also listed in People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in the World list in 1993 and 1998.
On the personal front, Hunter and her husband Tylo split in 2005 after 18 years of marriage. They have one son and two daughters. Her youngest daughter, Katya lost an eye due to retinoblastoma. Hunter has since then worked to raise awareness on the disease and has started a charity, Hunter's Chosen Child as well as Retinoblastoma International.
