Videos more videos Biography Amy Dumas, better known by her ring name Lita, is an American former professional wrestler. Amy Christine Dumas was born on April 14, 1975 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was a good student in her early years and managed to finish high school six months prior to graduation. Multi-talented Amy was an excellent swimmer in her childhood days and later in her teens practiced judo competitively. She also played bass guitar in a band called 3 Card Trick and was a roadie for another band, 7 Seconds, for 5 years. She also studied Spanish for three years. Amy's fascination with wrestling started after watching Mexican luchador Rey Mysterio, Jr. wrestle on an episode of World Championship Wrestling's WCW Monday Nitro. She was so interested in learning about and being a part of the wrestling world that she traveled to Mexico to pursue her dreams. In Mexico, she interacted with wrestling heavyweights like Yoshihiro Tajiri, Val Venis, Essa Rios, Super Crazy, and Chris Jericho and trained under many wrestlers including Kevin Quinn, Miguel Perez, and Ricky Santana. Reportedly, Amy financed her wrestling training by dancing in a club under the pseudonym Misty. After completing her training, Amy worked for a while with the Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre, and spent ten days working for a promotion in Peru. Amy then returned to the United States and began working as a valet on the independent circuit. She used the ring name Angelica during this stage of her career. She got her big break in the spring of 1999 when she was approached by Paul Heyman, the owner and booker of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), the third largest promotion in the United States at that time. She debuted in ECW as Miss Congeniality, the on-screen girlfriend of Danny Doring. However, she later once again assumed the name Angelica and made her pay-per-view debut on July 18, 1999 at Heat Wave. Amy then took a break from ECW to attend Funk's wrestling school, the Funkin' Conservatory where she trained alongside 23 men. She graduated from the school in August 1999 and returned to ECW. However, WWE was impressed by the video footage of Amy that Funk and his wife sent to them and signed her on a developmental deal on November 1, 1999. Amy made her final appearance with ECW on October 23, 1999. Amy honed her skills at the Memphis Championship Wrestling developmental territory and was given the ring name Lita. She made her WWE debut on February 13, 2000 episode of Heat. She began her WWE career with accompanying wrestler Rios and later Team Xtreme. She later participated in intergender tag team matches and then in women's matches. On the August 21, 2000 episode of RAW is WAR, Amy defeated Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley to win the Women's Championship for the first time. She held the title for 73 days, defeating challengers such as Ivory, Terri Runnels, The Kat and Trish Stratus. Amy went on to feature in many memorable storylines including her involvement with Hardy brothers. She tried to win the Women's Championship again on many occasions but was thwarted each time. On April 6, 2002, Amy suffered three cracks in her C5 and C6 vertebrae while filming a fight scene for the television program Dark Angel. She underwent neck surgery and spent most of the subsequent year rehabilitating. Amy finally returned to the ring after an absence of 17 months on the September 15, 2003 episode of RAW. However, it was only on December 6, 2004 that she was able to defeat Trish Stratus for the Women's Championship. Her reign was short-lived for a little over a month. Over next two years Amy was involved in storylines with Edge, Kane, and Matt Hardy. On the August 14, 2006 episode of RAW, she defeated Mickie James to win the Women's Championship for the third time. She announced her retirement from WWE on the November 20 edition of RAW, after defeating Mickie James in a non-title match. She has indicated that post-retirement from WWE she would increase her involvement with her band, the Luchagors, and will act in theatre productions. One of the toughest women in WWE, there is little doubt that Amy will be as successful in her non-wrestling endeavors as she was at the WWE.
