Biography
Mickie James is an American professional wrestler and is currently the Women's Champion with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Before WWE, she wrestled under the ring name of Alexis Laree.
Mickie James was born on August 31, 1979 in Richmond, Virginia. She made her professional wrestling debut in 1999 as a ring valet for KYDA Pro Wrestling in Manassas, Virginia. At the initial stages of her career, Mickie managed some popular stars such as Steve Corino and Tommy Dreamer. However, she was constantly being drawn into feuds with other wrestlers and their valets and managers and finally decided to step into the ring as a wrestler. In late 1999, Mickie appeared in other wrestling promotions like Beautiful Babes of Wrestling (BBOW) and Professional Girl Wrestling Association (PGWA). She later wrestled for Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW).
In January 2001, Mickie debuted for two new women's promotions, Dangerous Women of Wrestling (DWOW) and Women's Extreme Wrestling (WEW). The promotions dealt with hardcore women's wrestling and Mickie was featured in many matches against Amy Lee, Dee-Dee Venturi, Candie, and Ronnie Stephens.
In late 2002, Mickie debuted as Alexis Laree in NWA: TNA Wrestling. In March 2003 she joined The Gathering, a group led by Raven. The Gathering, in fact, was a smaller part of Vince Russo's "Sports Entertainment Xtreme" (S.E.X.). At TNA, Mickie featured in two Clockwork Orange House of Fun matches making her the only women to achieve this feat. However, in the second match she was hit in the face by a fireball and was never seen on NWA/TNA broadcasts again.
In August 2003, Mickie accepted a developmental contract with WWE and was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in Louisville, Kentucky for training. By early 2004, she had started making television appearances for the OVW promotion and was regularly included in storylines including Jillian Hall, Melina, Trudi Denucci, Nikita Fink, Passion, Shaniqua, Melissa Coates, Ms. Blu, Beth Phoenix, & Shelly. Mickie was still using the ring name "Alexis Laree" when she was with OVW.
Mickie debuted on the main roster of WWE during the October 10, 2005 episode of RAW under her real name, Mickie James. Her first storyline portrayed her as an obsessed fan that eventually developed a lesbian crush on Trish Stratus. By March 2006, Mickie had turned heel by attacking Trish Stratus. The stage was set for a match. At WrestleMania 22, Mickie defeated Trish Stratus for the Women's Championship. She became the first WWE diva to win the Women's Championship on her WrestleMania debut since Wendi Richter at the very first WrestleMania.
Mickie James lost the Women's Championship on the August 14, 2006 edition of RAW to Lita. However, at Survivor Series, Mickie became a two-time Women's Champion by defeating Lita. Apart from wrestling, Mickie loves horses and has posed nude in the May 2000 issue of the Leg Show magazine. She is currently engaged to fellow WWE superstar Ken Doane, also known as Kenny Dykstra.
Over the years, Mickie has won numerous wrestling championship titles and has originated popular finishing moves such as Mickie DDT and Mick Kick. She is poised to continue as one of the top WWE divas for quite some time.
