Biography

The Pussycat Dolls, a popular female pop group with number one dance hits, was originally a burlesque dance troupe known for its hot and racy performances.

In 1993, Robin Antin, a dancer and choreographer formed the Pussycat Dolls with her girlfriends in the garage of her actress friend Christina Applegate. They experimented with Antin's choreography, a style inspired by Bob Fosse known for his choreography in Sweet Charity, Chicago, and Cabaret.

The troupe gave its first performance in 1995 in Johnny Depp's nightclub The Viper Room with Carmen Electra as a lead performer. She was with the group for two years and added a great deal to the Pussycat Dolls image of great sex appeal and notoriety.

In 2000, Gwen Stefani wanted to be a Pussycat Doll for a night. This took their popularity to new heights and top singers, actresses, and models such as Christina Aguilera, Kelly Osbourne, Pink, Britney Spears, Brittany Murphy, Charlize Theron, Nikka Costa, Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson became guest performers with the Pussycat Dolls. The group won international acclaim as hot urban cabaret performers. They continued performing in The Viper Room till 2002 when they moved to the Roxy nightclub.

In 2003, the Pussycat Dolls appeared in the film Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and in Pink's Trouble video and numerous television shows along with Carmen Electra.

In 2003, Antin decided to give a new musical twist to the group. She held open auditions and formed an all female pop group with Nicole Scherzinger as the lead singer, Carmit Bachar, Melody Thornton, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta, and Ashley Roberts. The Pussycat Dolls now embodied strong women who like to have fun.

Nicole Scherzinger had won the Popstars: USA competition and was a member of the girl band, Eden's Crush.

Carmit Bachar had joined the Pussycat Dolls in 1995 and had performed earlier with many stars including No Doubt and Beyonce. She is better known for performing with Ricky Martin as his La Vida Loca girl and with Janet Jackson during her infamous Super Bowl show.

In 2004, the Pussycat Dolls sang We Went As Far As We Felt Like Going for the film Shark Tale.

In April 2005, the Pussycat Dolls released their first single, Don't Cha, featuring the rap star Busta Rhymes. The song brought instant success to the group as it climbed the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

The Pussycat Dolls proved itself when its single Stickwitu also became a hit and was its first U.S. # 1 Billboard Pop Radio hit and their second #1 single in the UK. The next single, Beep, featured Black Eyed Peas lead rapper will.i.am. The fourth song, Buttons, with Snoop Dogg went right into the top 3 on the UK singles chart. Their self-titled debut album released by the A&M label debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 100,000 copies. People don't seem to have enough of the Pussycat Dolls and they sure have lot in store.
