He is best known for his roles in the films The Fast & The Furious, Pitch Black, Boiler Room, Saving Private Ryan, and XXX. Vin stands out with his shaved head and brawny build. To top it all, he has a deep, baritone voice that endears him to his female fans. Vin Diesel was born as Mark Sinclair Vincent on July 18, 1967 in New York City. His mother, Delora S. Vincent is an astrologer and psychologist and raised him along with Vin's stepfather who is a teacher and theater director. When he was just seven, Vin made his acting debut in a Theatre of the New City production. Though he was involved with the theatre throughout his adolescence, he didn't get any good offers. On reading the book Feature Films at Used Car Prices, which his mother had got for him, Vin decided to make his own break rather than wait for it. At just $3000, Vin made his own film Multi-Facial. He directed, wrote, produced, and enacted the starring role in this short film based on his struggle to make it as an actor. The film was critically acclaimed and screened at 1995 Cannes Film Festival. It gave Vin his much needed break. In 1997, Vin went on to make his first feature-length film, Strays, in which he plays the role of a gangster boss whose love for a girl motivates him to try and mend his ways. The film was an entry at the 1997 Sundance Festival and he landed a deal with MTV to make it into a series. Based on his performance in Multi-Facial, Vin was cast as Private 1st Class Adrian Caparzo in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan (1998). It was not just his acting talent that got him work. In 1999, he lent his deep-throated voice to the title character in the animated film, The Iron Giant. In 2000, worked in two diametrically opposite roles-as Riddick in the sci-fi thriller Pitch Black and as telemarketer Chris in the drama Boiler Room. Both the films opened the same week and were successful in launching Vin into stardom. However, it was in 2001 with the commercial success of the film The Fast and the Furious that Vin came to be recognized as an international celebrity. Vin's role in XXX in 2002 further established his celebrity status. In 2004, Vin played the lead role in the sequel to Pitch Black called The Chronicles of Riddick. He also used his writing skills for this 2004 film. With his muscular frame and his ability to portray a wide array of races, Vin is the ultimate action hero. And with his producing, writing, and directing abilities, Vin has the right mix for success.
