Videos more videos Biography Chris Brown is a Grammy Award-nominated American pop singer, dancer, and actor. He is best known for his Scott Storch-produced debut single Run It! featuring Juelz Santana as well as the top ten hits Yo (Excuse Me Miss) and Say Goodbye. Christopher Maurice Brown was born on May 5, 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia to Clinton Brown and Joyce Ferrell. He has one sibling. Chris became interested in music when he went to stay with his aunt in Arkansas. He then started performing along with his cousins in local talent shows. Artists played by his parents on radio like Michael Jackson and Sam Cooke influenced him. When he was just 13 years old, a local production team who were searching for fresh talent discovered him. He then shifted to New York to begin his recording career and stayed there for two years. After an audition before Def Jam Vice President Tina Davis (who went on to be his manager), Chris got a chance to perform for L.A. Reid. In 2004, when he was just 15 years old, he signed a contract with Jive Records. Chris then started working on his debut album along with Scott Storch, The Underdogs, Dre, Vidal, Bryan Cox, Bow Wow, and Jermaine Dupri. In November 2005, Chris released his debut album Chris Brown. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 200 and sold over 155,000 copies in the first week of sales. It went on to sell 1.8 million copies in the U.S. and 3 million worldwide and was certified double platinum. It included the hit songs Run It! that reached No.1 in US, Yo (Excuse Me Miss) that reached No. 7, Say Goodbye that reached No. 10 and Gimme That. He also went on a tour The Up Close and Personal Tour to promote his album. In 2006, Chris won three Billboard Awards for his self-titled debut album, Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year. He also won the Black Entertainment Television Award for Best New Artist, Teen Choice Award for Choice Music Breakout Artist (Male), the Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul New Artist and the NAACP Image Awards Won for Outstanding New Artist. He also received two 2007 Grammy nominations, for Best Contemporary R&B Album for Chris Brown and Best New Artist. He also received three nominations for MTV Video Music Awards. Chris Brown has definitely arrived. Chris has also ventured into acting. He has appeared in minor roles in UPN's One on One, The O.C., and The-N's The Brandon T. Jackson Show all in the year 2006. In January 2007, Chris made his film debut in Stomp The Yard starring Ne-Yo, Meagan Good, and Columbus Short.
