Videos more videos Biography Billie Piper is an English actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Rose Tyler, in the television series Doctor Who (from 2005 to 2006). Originally named Lianne Piper, Billie was born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England on September 22, 1982. Her parents, Paul and Mandy Piper, changed her name just three weeks later to Billie Paul Piper. When she was just eight, she enrolled in the Sixth Sense theatre company. She started her career with television commercials. She also studied at the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School in London. However, her busy schedule forced her to go for a private tutor. Billie got her first break when she was just a teenager and was chosen to appear on Scratchy & Co, a kids' television show. She soon landed a role in a television commercial for the pop music magazine Smash Hits. This commercial got her the exposure she needed and was signed by Innocent Records, the new Virgin Records subsidiary in 1998. Billie soon released her debut single, Because We Want To at the age of 15. She also became the youngest solo artist to debut at number one on the UK charts. She topped this up with the hit Girlfriend and her debut album, Honey To The B, which was certified platinum. It was two years later in 2000 that Billie came up with her second album Walk of Life with the hits Day & Night, Walk of Life, and Something Deep Inside. However, the second album was not as successful as the first. Meanwhile, in 1999, Billie appeared in the television series Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Young Entertainers. In 2000, she was seen in Music Chronicles. In 2001, Billie got married to BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans in Las Vegas. Chris was 16 years older than her and helped her get a hold on her career and her fight against anorexia. In 2003, Billie started taking acting lessons in Los Angeles and landed a role in the BBC television series The Canterbury Tales. Her performance was well appreciated and Billie started focusing on her acting career and put a hold on her music. In 2004, Billie played the romantic interest of Orlando Bloom in the film The Calcium Kid. She also acted in Things to do Before You're Thirty and the horror film Spirit Trap. It was in 2005 with her role as companion to the Doctor in the television series Doctor Who that Billie became a household name. She won the Most Popular Actress award at the 2005 and 2006 National Television Awards and was named as one of the "Faces of the Year" by BBC News in 2005. On the personal front, Billie separated amicably from Chris Evans in 2004 and was divorced in 2006.
