Biography

Holly Marie Combs is an American actress best-known for her role as Piper Halliwell on Charmed.

Holly Marie Combs was born on December 3, 1973 in San Diego, California. Holly's childhood was pretty tumultuous. To begin with, her mother Lauralei Combs was just 15 years old when Holly was born. Though her mother married Holly's biological father, the couple split within two years. Over the next few years, Holly moved through many homes with her mother who was trying to pursue an acting career.

In 1980, when Holly was seven, her mother moved to New York City. It was here that Holly attended Beekman Hill Elementary and later The Professional Children's School of Acting. Even at a young age, Holly's looks and acting abilities were noted and she appeared in many print ads and TV commercials.

Though Holly is known more for her television appearances, she actually started serious acting with small roles in films. Her debut film was at the age of eleven when she got a role in Walls of Glass (1985). Her first mainstream film was Sweet Hearts Dance (1988) where she played Susan Sarandon's daughter. She later worked in Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and Hal Hartley's Simple Men (1992).

However, Holly was destined for television and her first success came in 1992 when she was selected for the role of Tom Skerritt and Kathy Baker's daughter for the drama series Picket Fences. During the four-year run of the Emmy award winning series from 1992 to 1996, Holly received much critical acclaim and a Young Actor's award. After Picket Fences ended, Holly starred as Texas teen-killer Diane Zamora in the TV docudrama Love's Deadly Triangle: The Texas Cadet Murder (1997), and as the daughter of a murdered heiress in USA Network's Our Mother's Murder (1997).

It was in 1998 that Holly appeared in her most popular role; as Piper on producer Aaron Spelling's Charmed. Young female audiences lapped up the story of three beautiful sisters with supernatural abilities. Holly and her screen siblings Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano became overnight celebrities.

Charmed ran for eight seasons till 2006 and earned the distinction of being the longest running television series with all female leads. Holly became co-producer for the show in its fifth season.

Holly's first marriage was with actor Bryan Smith in 1993. However, the marriage ended in 1997. After some relationships which did not mature, Holly finally married David Donoho-a crew member on the sets of Charmed-on February 14th, 2004 on Valentines Day. She gave birth to a baby boy named Finley Arthur Donoho on April 26th, 2004.

Apart from acting, Holly is an active supporter of Thursday's Child, a charity for teenage runaways, and a spokesperson for breast cancer awareness. She is also an avid animal lover and has a huge collection of pets.

Though the series Charmed has ended, Holly is sure to be back to charm us with her bewitching ways.
