Biography
Jessica Alba is an American actress of Mexican, Danish, and French-Canadian descent. She is best known for her role in James Cameron's sci-fi television series Dark Angel.
Jessica Marie Alba was born on April 28, 1981 in Pomona, California. Her father, Mark Alba is of Mexican descent and worked in the Air Force. Her mother, Cathy Jensen, is of Danish and French-Canadian descent and is a lifeguard. Jessica's family moved many times across the country before finally settling in California when she was nine. Jessica showed great interest in acting even in her childhood. She also liked playing sports and learnt swimming as an infant. When she was 12 years old, she enrolled for acting classes. Soon after, within a year, an agent signed her.
In 1994, Jessica made her film debut in Camp Nowhere. She was originally cast in a small role. Luckily, one of the main characters dropped out and Jessica got her role because her hair color matched that of the original actress.
Jessica was next seen in commercials for Nintendo and J.C. Penney. She also bagged a recurring role in Nickelodeon's The Secret World of Alex Mack in 1994.
In 1995, being a PADI-certified scuba diver paid off when Jessica landed the role of Maya in the television series Flipper. She was with the series till 1996. Meanwhile, she was seen in the film Venus Rising (1995), the made-for-television film Too Soon for Jeff (1996) and an episode of the series Chicago Hope.
In 1998, Jessica worked in many television series. These include a recurring role on the primetime soap Beverly Hills, 90210, Brooklyn South, and The Love Boat: The Next Wave.
In 1999, Jessica landed roles in the films P.U.N.K.S. (aka Rebels), Never Been Kissed along with Drew Barrymore, and Idle Hands along with Vivica A. Fox.
In 2000, Jessica's exotic beauty got her the big break in her career when she was cast in the lead role the television series, Dark Angel. She played the role of Max Guevara, a genetically engineered woman soldier who escapes from the lab and helps Logan Cale (played by Michael Weatherly), in his fight against crime. She got engaged to Michael in 2001. They broke up in 2003
In 2000, Jessica won the Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television for her role in Dark Angel. The role, which lasted for two years, also won her a nomination for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Actress in a Dramatic Television Series.
In 2003, Jessica played the title role in the film Honey.
In 2005, Jessica played the role of Nancy Callahan in the film Sin City. Despite the fact that she was playing the role of a stripper, she decided not to bare all. She even has a no-nudity clause in her contract.
In 2005, Jessica was also seen in the films Into the Blue and Fantastic Four.
In 2006, in the March issue, Jessica was named the Sex Star of the Year in the Playboy magazine and she has more than lived up to her image.
