Biography
Justin Berfield is an American actor and producer who is best known for his role as Reese on Malcolm in the Middle and Ross on Unhappily Ever After. He has appeared in over 100 episodes of these two series, and became the youngest person in television history to achieve the feat.
Justin Tyler Berfield was born on February 25, 1986 in Los Angeles County, California. He showed great talent in acting since a very young age. When he was just five years old, he appeared in a Folgers Coffee commercial. This led to his doing more than 15 television commercials and he came to be called The Commercial Kid.
In 1994, when he was just 8, Berfield made his television debut in The Good Life. In 1995, he bagged the role of Ross Malloy, the youngest sibling in Unhappily Ever After. He was on the sitcom for 5 seasons.
In 1998, at the age of 12, Berfield made his film debut with Mom, Can I Keep Her? The film did not do well. In 1999, he worked in the thrillers Wanted and Invisible Mom II. The same year, Berfield bagged the lead role in the sci-fi film The Kid with X-ray Eyes (1999), starring Fred Olen Ray. He was also seen in another sci-fi children's film, Invisible Mom II (1999). Unfortunately, The Kid with X-ray Eyes and Invisible Mom II were direct-to-video releases.
In 2000, Berfield got his big break with his role as Reese in the television situational comedy Malcolm in the Middle (from 2000). His performance won him positive reviews from critics and audiences. It also won him the Young Star for Best Young Ensemble Cast – Television in 2000 and the Young Artist for Best Ensemble in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) in 2003.
Despite his hectic shooting for the television series, Berfield continued with his film career. In 2001, he was seen in Tim Hill's comedy film Max Keeble's Big Move along with Alex D. Linz, Larry Miller and Jamie Kennedy. In 2003, he played the role of Danny Hughes in the film Who's Your Daddy? In 2004, Berfield lent his voice for Ving in the animation Crash Nebula.
Berfield has also ventured into producing. He co-founded the film production company, J2 Entertainment (J2TV). He acted as a co-producer of the musical film Romance & Cigarettes (2005). He is also the executive producer of reality series for E! called Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive (From 2005). The series sends out the children of actors and musicians on a cattle drive on a historic Colorado cattle ranch.
With such a diverse career, Berfield has not just earned millions of dollars but also millions of fans.
