Videos more videos Biography Beyonce Knowles is a Grammy Award winning American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She is best known for being the lead singer of the girl band Destiny's Child and for her solo hits Baby Boy, Crazy In Love, Déjà vu,and Irreplaceable. She is also known for her role in the film Austin Powers in Goldmember. Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Matthew and Tina Knowles. She showed great talent in singing from a very young age and used to sing in the church choir. She took dance and opera lessons to exploit her natural talent. She went on to win in more than 30 singing and dancing competitions. At the age of 8, Beyonce met LaTavia Robertson at an audition for a girl band. They performed for the first time as a band called Destiny's Child along with cousin Kelly Rowland and LeToya Luckett in 1992 on Star Search. Their first single No, No, No was released in 1998 and became a Billboard top 10 hit. Beyonce, the lead singer, was now a celebrity. Destiny's Child came up with many smash hits including Jumpin' Jumpin, ‘Bills, Bills, Bills', Say My Name, and Survivor. The group was awarded three Grammy awards, for Say My Name and Survivor. The band was here to stay despite breakups. In 2001, LeToya and LaTavia left the band and were replaced by Michelle Williams. In 2001, Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle took a break from the band to focus in their solo careers. Beyoncé soon won the annual ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award and became the first African-American female artist and the second woman to do so. In 2002, Beyonce made her film debut with a starring role as Foxxy Cleopatra in the Mike Meyers comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember. She also recorded Work It Out for the film's soundtrack. With the success of the film, she cemented her star status. In 2003, Beyonce released debut hit single Crazy in Love, featuring her rapper boyfriend Jay-Z. She soon released her debut album Dangerously in Love, which featured collaborations with Sean Paul, Missy Elliott, and OutKast's Big Boi. The album was certified multi-platinum and included four Top Ten singles including Baby Boy and The Closer I Get To You. She won five Grammy awards in 2004. Meanwhile, she also went back to the band to release the album Destiny Fulfilled in 2004. In 2005, Beyoncé released the hit Check on It featuring Slim Thug and Bun B. In 2006, Beyoncé won a Grammy for So Amazing, a duet with Stevie Wonder. That year she also released her second album B'Day that included hits Déjà vu, Ring the Alarm, and Irreplaceable. Beyonce is now more than a star: she is a diva. She is always in the news with her catchy songs and videos and you can expect much more from this talented star.
