Biography

Leah Remini is an American actress of Italian, Jewish, and Austrian heritage. She is best known for her role as Carrie Heffernan on the sitcom The King of Queens.

Leah Remini was born on June 15, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York City. Her father, George Remini is Italian and runs an asbestos company. Her mother, Vicki Marshall, is Jewish and Austrian and is a high school principal. When Leah was seven, her parents got divorced. She has one sister, Nicole Remini and four half-sisters, Shannon, Stephanie, Elizabeth, and Christine. Leah left school when she was 14 and started doing odd jobs as a waitress, car insurance salesgirl, and a telemarketer for a solar heating company.

In 1988, Leah made her television debut in a small role with one line of dialogue in an episode of the television series Head of the Class.

In 1989, Leah played the role of Samantha Micelli's friend in two episodes of Who's the Boss? This role led to a recurring role on Living Dolls, a spin-off of Who's the Boss?

Leah next did several small roles, the most notable amongst them being the role of the daughter of Carla (played by Rhea Perlman) in the series Cheers from 1991 to 1993. She next did small roles lasting a couple of episodes in Evening Shade (1993) and The Commish (1994).

In 1995, Leah starred in the sitcom, First Time Out from 1995. She also appeared in the television film Star Witness.

Leah missed out on being cast as Monica in the popular comedy Friends but was cast in a guest role in the episode The One with the Birth (1995).

In 1996, Leah played the role of Theresa in the film Glory Daze with Ben Affleck. That year, she also worked in single episodes in the series NYPD Blue and Biker Mice from Mars.

In 1997, Leah landed the lead role along with Sharon Lawrence in the sitcom Fired Up. However, the sitcom was canceled in 1998.

Nevertheless, Leah was onto her big break that year when she was cast as Carrie Heffernan opposite comedian Kevin James in the sitcom, The King of Queens. The series became a huge hit and so did Leah. She started getting noticed for her beauty as well as her talent as a comedian. In 2003, she went on to do a comedy film Old School. She has also been featured in men's magazines like the For Him Magazine and Stuff.

On the personal front, Leah married actor Angelo Pagan in 2003. Their wedding was featured in a documentary that was aired on the VH1 series Inside Out. The couple have a daughter, Sofia Bella born on June 16, 2004.
