Biography

Rhona Mitra is a British actress and model. She is best-known for being the live model for the character Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider video game series.

Rhona Mitra was born on August 9, 1976 in Paddington, London, England. Her father, Anthony Mitra is of Indian and English descent and is a cosmetic surgeon. Her mother, Nora is Irish Catholic. In 1984, when Rhona was just eight years old, her parents got divorced and she was sent to a boarding school. Rhona was a free-spirited girl and was expelled from two different all-girls schools.

Back in London, Rhona got caught up in the club scene and got used to drugs. It was quite some time before she took control over her life and joined a drama school.

In 1995, Rhona made her television debut with a one-time appearance in the television series, Ghostbusters of East Finchley.

The next year in 1996, Rhona landed her first film role in Monk Dawson, which was released in 1998.

However, it was in 1997 with her role as Flora Seymour, a mischievous schoolgirl in The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous that really made people notice her as a budding young actress.

Rhona was next seen in the films A Kid in Aladdin's Palace (1998) and Croupier (1998).

In 1998, Rhona's close resemblance to the character from the Tomb Raider action series helped her get her big break. She made a name for herself by becoming the real-life model of the popular video game character Lara Croft. During her tenure as Lara Croft, she posed at several photo shoots, trade shows, and media events. She even cut a pop song Getting Naked for the video game's soundtrack along with Dave Stewart. With her rising popularity, Rhona felt it was time for her to try her luck in Hollywood.

In 1999, Rhona did a major role in Beowulf with Christopher Lambert. That year, she got her first break in America when she was cast on the popular television series Party of Five. She played the recurring role of Holly Beggins, a British student studying medicine in America.

In 2000, Rhona played the role of Dr. Ollie Klein in the medical series Gideon's Grossing. However, the series lasted only a year.

In 2000, Rhona was seen in a hot love scene with Sylvester Stallone in Get Carter. That year she was also seen in the high-profile film Hollow Man. Though her role was minor, she was featured in trailers of the film owing to her sex appeal and popularity.

Rhona's rising popularity also won her a role in the hit romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002). Rhona continued to appear in several films in small roles.

Rhona has appeared in many television series including The Practice as Tara Wilson and Nip/Tuck as Kit McGraw. Her pictures in men's magazines only added to her popularity.
