Biography
Victoria Beckham is a British pop singer and songwriter. She is best known as Posh Spice, a member of the highly popular girl band Spice Girls. She is also famous for being the wife of football superstar David Beckham.
Victoria Caroline Adams was born on April 17, 1974 in Hertfordshire, England. Her father, Anthony William Adams worked as an electronics engineer and along with his wife Jacqueline ran an electrical wholesale business. Victoria has two siblings but was a lonely child and far from being popular in school. However, she was part of a band in her school and studied at the Jason Theatre School. She next studied at the Laine Arts Theatre College, where she did a little bit of dance and modeling.
Victoria got her big break when she answered an advertisement in The Stage for five women who could sing and dance to form a band. Victoria was selected along with Emma, Geri, Mel C, and Mel B and the band was called Spice Girls.
In 1996, the Spice Girls released their first single, Wannabe. It was a big hit and the debut album Spice was also a smash hit. Victoria along with her band mates became a household name. They went on to produce more hits like 2 Become 1 and Spice Up Your Life. They also featured in a film, Spiceworld.
However, in 1998, Geri Halliwel decided to quit the band. The band was not the same anymore. In 2000, the remaining four Spice Girls released Forever, but it was far from being successful. The band then decided to split up and launch their solo careers.
Meanwhile, Victoria fell in love with football star David Beckham and they got married in July 1999. They have three sons, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.
In August 2000, Victoria started off her solo career with the single Out Of Your Mind, in collaboration with the Garage act the Truesteppers and Dane Bowers. The single sold 180,584 copies in the first week after a big promotion campaign and debuted at number two.
In September 2001, Victoria went completely solo to release the single Not Such An Innocent Girl. Kylie Minogue’s single Can't Get You Out Of My Head was also released at the same time and despite huge publicity, the single had weaker sales. A fortnight later, Victoria released her debut album Victoria Beckham with the single Every Part Of Me dedicated to her son Brooklyn. The album managed to reach number 10 in the UK album chart.
In 2001, Victoria released her autobiography Learning To Fly. It was the 3rd best selling non-fiction book that year in UK. She released her second book on fashion in That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything In Between in 2006.
