Biography
Denise Richards is an American actress who rose to stardom with Wild Things and the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough.
Denise Lee Richards was born in Downers Grove, Illinois on February 17, 1972. Her father, Irving Richards, used to work for a phone company. Her mother, Joni, owns a chain of coffee shops called "Jitters". When she was 14, her family shifted to California.
At her high school, El Camino High School, in Oceanside, Denise used to take part in cheerleading, which perhaps led her to pursue a career in modeling after high school. She started modeling in the fashion cities of Paris, New York, and Tokyo. She modeled for the Bonne Bell cosmetics.
Denise soon shifted to Los Angeles to try her hand at acting. She made her television debut in 1990 with a small part in Life Goes On (1990). This was followed by roles in television Saved by the Bell(1991), Married with Children (1991), Doogie Howser (1991), Eerie, Indiana (1992), and Beverly Hills: 90210 (1992).
In 1993, she got her first break when she was noticed for her role as Ben Affleck's girlfriend in the series Against the Grain. Her appearances in Seinfeld (1993) also brought her into the limelight.
The year 1993 also saw Denise making her film debut with National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1. This was followed by her first starring role in Tammy and the T-Rex (1994).
After a string of nondescript movies, Denise got her first taste of fame in 1997 when she starred in Starship Troopers. Her status as a sex symbol got more fuel with her steamy threesome scene in Wild Things (1998) starring Neve Campbell and Matt Dillon. The film made her a celebrity and she got more such roles. She appeared in Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), starring Kirsten Dunst. The film didn't do too well but the same year, she also appeared in the cult James Bond flick, The World Is Not Enough (1999) opposite Pierce Brosnan.
Denise then starred in some unremarkable films such as Valentine (2001), Good Advice (2001) and Empire (2002). However, her luck changed with the hit comedy Undercover Brother (2002). She also starred in The Third Wheel (2002) with Ben Afleck and You Stupid Man (2002).
In 2003, Denise acted in the romantic comedy Love, Actually, along with Keira Knightley and Hugh Grant. This was followed by the horror comedy Scary Movie 3.
Denise met Charlie Sheen on the set of Good Advice and married him in 2002. They have two daughters, Sam born in 2004 and Lola Rose born in 2005. In April 2006, Denise filed for a divorce from Charlie Sheen.
Denise appeared nude in the December 2004 issue of Playboy despite being a mom. She thus established that she can be a sex symbol till time immemorial.
