Biography
Alyson Hannigan is an American actress, who is best-known for playing the roles of Willow Rosenberg on the popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and flutist Michelle in the hit film American Pie (1999).
Allison Lee Hannigan was born on March 24, 1974 in Washington, D.C. Her father, Albert Hannigan is an Irish American truck driver. Her mother, Emilie Posner is a Jewish American real estate agent. When Alyson was just one year old, her parents got divorced and her mother raised her in Atlanta.
When Alyson was just four years old, she appeared in many commercials, such as the campaigns for companies like Oreo Cookies and McDonald's.
When Alyson was 11 years old, she shifted to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career in films and television.
In 1986, Alyson made her film debut with a small role in Impure Thoughts (1986). However, her first major role came in 1988 with the science fiction comedy film My Stepmother Is an Alien, as Steven Mills' (played by Dan Aykroyd) daughter, Jessie.
In 1989, Alyson made her debut on television with her role as Jessie Harper on the situational comedy Free Spirit. She became a part of the regular cast but the series did not last long. She then acted in many television shows, such as Roseanne (1990), Picket Fences (1996), and Touched by an Angel (1994). She also acted in a few television films such as A Case for Life (1996), The Stranger Beside Me (1995), and For My Daughter's Honor (1996).
However, it was in 1997 that she got her big break with her role as Willow Rosenberg, Buffy's best friend in the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The series went to be a huge success with critics and viewers and Alyson got her first taste of fame.
Alyson then was cast opposite Tom Everett Scott in the comedy Dead Man on Campus (1998).
The following year in 1999, Alyson acted in American Pie. She played the role of the high school band member and flutist, Michelle. With its success, the film provided even more recognition for Alyson.
In 2000, Alyson did a small role in the flop film Boys and Girls by Jason Biggs and Freddie Prinze Jr.
However, Alyson made up for this setback with her role in the high-profile films American Pie 2 (2001) and American Wedding (2003).
In 2004, Alyson made her West End debut with a starring role opposite Luke Perry in a stage adaptation of When Harry Met Sally at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
In 2005, Alyson appeared as Lily in the television series, How I Met Your Mother. She also played a recurring guest role of Trina Echolls in Veronica Mars.
On the personal front, Alyson got married in 2003 to actor Alexis Denisof who plays Wesley Wyndam-Pryce on Buffy.
