Videos more videos Biography Johnny Depp is an A-list American actor. He is known for his strong performances and has been nominated for Academy Awards and has won a Screen Actors Guild Award. He also constantly figures in the most sexy males lists. John Christopher Depp II was born on June 9, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky to John Christopher Depp Sr. and Betty Sue Palmer. His father was a city engineer and mother a waitress and homemaker. He has three siblings, one brother, Danny, and two sisters, Christie and Debbie. By the time he was seven, Johnny had extensively moved along with his family and lived in more than twenty different locations. In 1970, the Depps finally settled in Miramar, Florida. In 1978, Johnny's parents divorced. A year later, he dropped out of school to become a rock musician. He joined a local band named, "The Kids". Buoyed by the local success the band changed its name to "Six Gun Method" and moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a record deal. On December 24, 1984 Johnny married Lori Anne Allison, his makeup artist, and the sister of the drummer of the band. Unfortunately, the marriage did not go down well with the band members and caused a split. The next few years were hard as to sustain themselves Lori worked as a makeup artist and Johnny worked a variety of odd jobs, including a telemarketer for ink pens. In 1985, Johnny and Lori divorced but not before she had introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage, who advised Johnny to pursue acting as a career. Johnny's first major role in movies was in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. However, the role, which probably shot him to fame and made him a household name especially among the teens, was the lead role on the 1987 FOX TV television series, 21 Jump Street. Always ready to take up challenging roles, Johnny next starred in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands (1990). Johnny and Burton struck a chord and over the years Johnny has starred in many Burton movies like Ed Wood (1994), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and Corpse Bride (2005). In 2003, Johnny played arguably the best role of his life till date in the Walt Disney Pictures film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. His performance as the eccentric yet affable pirate Captain Jack Sparrow earned him critical acclaims as well as mass popularity. He was nominated for an Academy Award for this role. In 2004, he was again nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Scottish author J. M. Barrie in Finding Neverland. In July 2006, Johnny was seen in the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The movie grossed $135.5 million in the first three days of its U.S. release and broke the box office record of the highest weekend tally. On the personal front, after the collapse of his first marriage, Johnny has dated some of the most desirable females such as Sherilyn Fenn, Winona Ryder, and Kate Moss. However, since 1998 he's living with French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis. The couple has two children, daughter Lily-Rose Melody Depp (born May 27, 1999) and son Jack John Christopher Depp III (born April 10, 2002). In a world where material success often overshadows art, Johnny has made a name for himself by looking out for challenging and unconventional roles. The versatile actor promises to appear in many more memorable roles in the future.
