Biography

Kelly Ripa is an American actress and talk show host of Italian and Irish descent. She is best known for her roles as Hayley Vaughan in All My Children and Faith in Hope & Faith. She is also known for co-hosting the show Live with Regis and Kelly with Regis Philbin.

Kelly Maria Ripa was born on October 2, 1970 in Stratford, New Jersey. Her father, Joe was a labor union president who went on to be an elected official for Camden County, NJ and her mother, Esther is a housewife. She has a younger sister Linda who is a children's book author. Since the age of three, Kelly took ballet lessons. As a child, she also played the piano. While in high school, she acted in a play, The Ugly Duckling. She was then encouraged to pursue a career in acting. She next acted in local theater productions such as H.M.S. Pinafore, The Wizard of Oz, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. She also landed a regular spot on the afternoon teen music program on USA Network, Dance Party USA.

It was in 1990 that Kelly got her big break when she landed the role of Hayley Vaughan on the popular daytime soap, All My Children. She soon became highly popular. In 1995, she was paired with Mark Consuelos who played the character of Mateo Santos. They became a couple off-screen too and married in Las Vegas in May 1996. They have three kids, Michael Joseph Consuelos (born June 2, 1997); Lola Grace Consuelos (born June 16, 2001) and Joaquin Antonio Consuelos (born February 24, 2003).

Kelly won two Daytime Emmy Award nominations in 1993 and 1999. She won the Soap Opera Award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress in 1996 and with her husband the Soap Opera Award for Hottest Romance in 1997. In 2000, the couple got married on-screen in All My Children. The episode of the wedding drew large number of fans and ABC saw its ratings soaring.

Kelly was now a celebrity and was seen on the covers of various fan magazines. She also appeared in a Jockey advertisement for bras along with four other daytime stars in 1999. The advertisement was blown up on a 90-foot billboard in the middle of Times Square in Manhattan.

In 1999, Kelly won the Best Actress award at the New York City Independent Film Festival for her role as Jennifer in the film, The Stand-In.

In 2001, Kelly became the co-host of the popular talk show, Live! With Regis and Kelly. She soon became a household name in North America.

In December 2002, Kelly and her husband quit All My Children. But soon after in September 2003, she landed the role of Faith on the sitcom, Hope & Faith. She was now more popular than ever.
