Biography

Rebecca Cartwright is an Australian actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Hayley Smith in the soap opera Home and Away. She is also famous for being the wife of Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt and is also known as Bec Hewitt.

Rebecca June Cartwright was born on July 23, 1983 in Sydney, Australia. When she was as young as three years, she took her first step in the world of entertainment and started performing. She then went on to do catalogue work and voice-overs for many corporations. Her first commercial was for American television called My Little Pony and she then went on to appear in more than fifty commercials.

In 1992, when she was just nine years old, Rebecca starred in an episode of the television series Police Rescue.

However, it was in 1999 with Seven Network's soap opera Home and Away that Rebecca really made it big. She played the role of Hayley Smith for six years till August 2005 when she left the show, as she was pregnant. However, the show continued and Ella Scott Lynch then played her role of Hayley Smith. By coincidence, her character in the show was also pregnant.

In 1999, Rebecca won the nomination for a Silver Logie for Most Popular New Talent. WHO Weekly listed her in their list of 21 Hottest Stars Under 21. In 2002, she was voted as the Sixth Favourite Star in the World, the Second Best Female Star, and the Fifth Hottest Female Celebrity in Big Hit magazine's Reader Poll. She has also been voted the sexiest woman in Australia in a poll by For Him Magazine.

In 2004, Rebecca was featured in and won the first part of the Australian series Dancing with the Stars.

In 2005, Rebecca won the Logie award for Most Popular Actress. She was nominated for this award again the next year along with the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality.

In November 2006, Rebecca came back to television as a presenter for the show Abba Mania, which was broadcast on Channel Nine. However, her performance as a presenter was not received well by the public.

On the personal front, Rebecca had a four year relationship from 2000-2004 with Beau Brady, her on-screen love interest. Soon after breaking up with Brady, she started dating her long-time friend and tennis player Lleyton Hewitt. After six weeks of courtship, they got engaged. On 21 July 2005, the couple got married in a ceremony that was supposed to be a secret. Guests were allegedly asked to sign confidentiality agreements. However, their marriage took place in a very accessible venue at the Sydney Opera House and was a well-covered event in the media. They have a daughter, Mia Rebecca Hewitt, who was born on 29 November 2005.
