Videos more videos Biography Patricia Heaton is an Emmy award winning American television actress. She is best known for her role as Debra Barone in the popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. Patricia Helen Heaton was born on March 4, 1958 in Bay Village, Ohio. Her father, Chuck Heaton is a well-known sportswriter for Cleveland Plain Dealer. Her mother died when she was just twelve. She has three sisters and one brother who is also a writer for Cleveland Plain Dealer. As a child, she loved to perform before other kids. Her father encouraged her to pursue journalism but her heart was set on acting. She graduated from Ohio State University in theater arts in 1980. She then shifted to New York City and studied under drama teacher William Esper. Patricia soon made her Broadway debut in the musical, Don't Get God Started. However, she wasn't getting any break in her career. She then formed a production company called Stage Three along with her fellow acting students. Their production The Johnstown Vindicator (1989) became a huge success and was staged in Los Angeles too. Out there, she caught the attention of casting directors. Patricia soon shifted to Los Angeles and made her television debut with the role of a gynecologist in the series thirtysomething. This was succeeded by small roles in the shows Alien Nation and Matlock. In 1990, Patricia appeared in the made-for-television film Shattered Dreams. In 1992, Patricia landed the leading role in the television series Room for Two. That year, she was also seen in the films Memoirs of an Invisible Man and the children's film Beethoven. She was next seen in the television series Someone Like Me (1994) and Women of the House (1995). However, it was not until 1996 that Patricia got her big break when she was cast in the lead role as Debra Barone in the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond (1996 - 2005) starring comedian Ray Romano. The sitcom went on to a huge hit and she became a household name. She won the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series twice in 2000 and 2001. She has also been nominated for the award consecutively since 1999. She has also won the Q Award for Best Actress in a Quality Comedy Series twice in 1999 and 2000. Meanwhile, Patricia worked in the film Space Jam (1996). She also acted in the television films Miracle in the Woods (1997), A Town Without Christmas (2001), Christmas in Washington (2003), and The Goodbye Girl (2004). On the personal front, Patricia first got married in 1984 but got divorced in 1987. In 1990, she married British actor David Hunt. They have four sons. She has also written her memoir, Motherhood and Hollywood: How to Get a Job Like Mine that was published by Villard Books in 2002.
