Biography
Alizee is a French pop singer. She is best known for her song Moi... Lolita from the album Gourmandises that was the top hit in France and a hit in the rest of Europe too.
Alizée Jacotey was born on August 21, 1984 in Ajaccio, Corsica. Her father is a computer scientist and her mother a businesswoman. Alizee started taking dance lessons when she was just five years old. She showed great talent in it and also started learning singing and acting. She was also talented in sketching and her design won the first prize in a coloring competition organized by Air Outre Mer.
In 1999, Alizee's parents entered her name in the French television talent show Graines de Star, a French version of the talent show Star Search. She wanted to participate in the dance section but it was for groups only. Alizée therefore ended up taking part in the singing section and performed the song Ma Prière. Her performance won her the "Meilleure Graine" award for the most promising young singing star of tomorrow. It also won her the attention of French pop diva Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, who were looking for someone with a young, fresh voice to join them in their new project. They offered a contract to Alizee after some studio auditions and she thus got her big break.
In 2000, Alizee released her debut album Gourmandises (Delicacies). The songs were written by Farmer and portray the point of view of a teenage girl growing up. The release was accompanied by a publicity campaign, which was orchestrated by Farmer and Boutonnat, and portrayed Alizee as a sexy, Lolita who could melt the hearts of men. The first single from the album, Moi... Lolita, went on to top the charts in France. The video for the song shows Alizee as a village girl who visits a nightclub. Overnight, Alizee became a pop star. The album also sold over 4 million copies worldwide and was certified platinum in France. It also included another hit L'Alize.
In 2003, Alizee released her second album Mes Courants Électriques (My Electric Currents). This album, also written by Farmer and Boutonnat, was not received that well and sold over 400,000 copies in France. It showed Alizee in a toned down image.
In 2004, Alizee released a CD and DVD Alizée En Concert, covering her tour.
In 2003, Alizee got married to French singer Jérémy Châtelain, whom she met at the 2003 Eurobest awards function. In 2005, their first child, Anny-Lee was born.
Since her marriage, Alizee was hardly seen in public and on the music scene. After this hiatus, she was seen on MTV France in February 2006 giving the hope of seeing more of her on the music scene too.
