Videos more videos Biography Sara Evans is an American country singer. She is best known for her hits Born to Fly and Suds in the Bucket. Sara Lynn Evans was born on February 5, 1971 in Boonville, Missouri. She was raised on a tobacco farm along with her six younger siblings. When she was just five, she started singing in her family's band. When she was eight, she had an accident but she still sang from her wheelchair. At the age of 16, she started singing at a nightclub near Columbia, Missouri. In 1991, at the age of 20, Sara shifted to Nashville, Tennessee. Out there, she worked as a waitress to make ends meet and met fellow employee Craig Schelske. She later joined his family band, which went on to be a hit in Oregon. She next did the opening act for artists like Willie Nelson, Clay Walker and Tim McGraw for three years. In 1993, Sara got married to Schelske and went back to Nashville in 1995 where she started recording her demo tapes. Sara got her first break when songwriter Harlan Howard heard her singing I've Got A Tiger By The Tail on her demo tape. He then decided that she should sing his songs and got RCA Records to sign her in 1996. In 1997, Sara released her debut album, Three Chords and the Truth. It was well appreciated by critics. In 1998, Sara released her second album, No Place That Far. It included the No.1 song No Place That Far, a duet with Vince Gill. The album went on to be certified gold. It was in 2000 that Sara made it big with her third album Born to Fly. It included the hits Born to Fly, Saints and Angels, and I Keep Looking. The album was certified double platinum. She won the 2001 Country Music Association award for Video of the Year for the album. She also won seven nominations that year. In 2003, Sara released the album Restless. It included the hits Backseat of a Greyhound Bus, Perfect, and Suds in the Bucket. The album was certified platinum. In 2005, Sara released the album Real Fine Place with the hit A Real Fine Place to Start and the single Coalmine. It went on to be her best-selling album and was certified gold. In 2006, Sara competed at the 2006 Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas performing the single Coalmine, and won the award for the Female Vocalist Of The Year. That year she also took part in the celebrity show Dancing with the Stars with Tony Dovolani who is a professional dancer. On the personal front, Sara and Schelske have three kids, Avery (born in 1999), Olivia (born in 2003), and Audrey (born in 2004). However, in 2006, the couple filed for divorce.
