Videos more videos Biography Colin Farrell is an Irish actor who has made his mark in Hollywood with high-profile films like Minority Report, The Recruit, and Daredevil. Apart from his films, he is also known for his off-screen wild behaviour. Colin James Farrell was born on May 31, 1976 in Castleknock, Dublin. His father, Eamon Farrell was a soccer player with Shamrock Rovers FC when it won the FAI Cup. He also managed the team. Colin studied at St. Brigid's National School in Castleknock followed by Castleknock College and Gormanston College. Colin initially wanted to be a soccer player and used to play as a goalkeeper for the Dublin team Castleknock Celtic. However, Colin gave that dream up and joined The Gaiety School of Acting to be an actor. In 1997, Colin made his film debut with Drinking Crude. In 1998, Colin made his television debut when he was cast as Danny Byrne on the Irish comedy on BBC, Ballykissangel. He next landed the starring role in the romantic television series Falling for a Dancer (1998). His performance impressed actor Tim Roth and he signed Colin for his directorial debut, The War Zone (1999). In 2000, Colin got his first break in Hollywood with the film Ordinary Decent Criminal starring Kevin Spacey and Linda Fiorentino. Though the movie didn't do well, Colin did well by getting the lead role in director Joel Schumacher's film Tigerland (2000). The film didn't do well but Colin's performance was critically acclaimed. Overnight, Colin became a star in Hollywood. He next appeared as Texan hero Jesse James in American Outlaws (2001). In July 2001, Colin married British actress Amelia Warner but got separated in November 2001. In 2003, he had a son, James with American model Kim Bordenave. In 2002, he appeared as Hart, a law student and soldier in Hart's War (2002) opposite Bruce Willis. He also played the role of Detective Danny Witwer in Steven Spielberg's Minority Report opposite Tom Cruise. With his amazing performance in Minority Report, Colin made it to the big league. He next worked again with Joel Schumacher in the thriller, Phone Booth (2002). Colin went on to work on a string of high-profile movies such as The Recruit (2003) with Al Pacino, Daredevil (2003) as the villainous Bullseye opposite Ben Affleck, Veronica Guerin (2003) opposite Cate Blanchett, S.W.A.T. (2003) opposite Samuel L. Jackson, Intermission (2003), and A Home at the End of the World (2004). The year 2003 made him a star and he also received an Irish Film and Television Award as well as GQ's Leading Man of the Year award. Colin also worked in the title role in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004). The movie did not do well. For some time, Colin worked in flops like Terrence Malick's The New World (2005) and Robert Towne's romantic period film Ask the Dust (2006) opposite Salma Hayek. However, his luck changed with Michael Mann's crime film Miami Vice.
