Biography

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was born on January 13, 1961 in New York City. Her father is French billionaire and businessman Gerard Louis-Dreyfus and was named one of Forbes Magazines richest men in the world. Her mother is Judith Bowles. She studied at the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, MD and also at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She subsequently met her husband Brad Hall while studying at Northwestern. The pair married in 1987 and they have two sons together.

Her first steady gig in comedy was on NBC's Saturday Night Live. She worked on SNL from 1982 to 1985. While there she met Larry David, the co-writer of Seinfield. Larry David thought of her for the part of Elaine Benes, even though there was no female lead in the pilot, which was decided to be added later on; she auditioned and won the role. She later won numerous Emmy Awards for her work on the show and was nominated countless times along with the rest of the cast.

Seinfeld was one of the most popular and longest running sitcoms to air in the 20th Century. The show had a total of nine seasons and ran from 1990 to 1998. After Seinfeld she was cast in a new NBC sitcom which she starred in called Watching Ellie. It was cancelled very quickly. The same scenario played out for other members of the Seinfeld cast leading to rumors of a "Seinfeld Curse" that resulted in bad luck for the members of the long-running, successful show. However, when she began getting excellent reviews for her role in CBS's The New Adventures of Old Christine, which aired on March 13, 2006, it was said that the "curse" was finally broken. The show has had excellent ratings and she was nominated for a Lead Actress Emmy for her work on Old Christine in 2006, solidifying the end of her unlucky streak.
