Videos more videos Biography Emma Bunton is a British pop singer, songwriter, and actress. She is best known as Baby Spice, a member of the highly popular girl band Spice Girls. Emma Lee Bunton was born on January 21, 1976 in Barnet, North London. Her mother, Pauline, was a karate instructor, and her father, Trevor, was a milkman. When Emma was just three, she won a beauty contest and wanted to be a dancer and an actress. When she saw Olivia Newton-John in Grease, she told her mother she wanted to be a singer. When she was just eleven, her parents split up and she grew up with her mother. Emma went to the Sylvia Young Theatre School where she studied on a scholarship. She next did a two-year drama course at Barnet Technical College. Meanwhile, she did a little bit of modeling and acting. She also appeared on the BBC hit soap opera, Eastenders. In 1994, Emma got her big break when she answered an advertisement in The Stage for five women who could sing and dance to form a band. Emma was selected along with Victoria Adams, Geri Halliwel, Melanie Brown, and Melanie Chisholm and the band was called Spice Girls. In 1996, the Spice Girls released their first single, Wannabe. It was a big hit and the debut album Spice was also a smash hit. Emma along with her band mates became a household name and came to be known as Baby Spice for dressing up in baby doll cresses and being the youngest member of the band. They went on to produce more hit like 2 Become 1 and Spice Up Your Life. They also featured in a film, Spiceworld. However, in 1998, Geri Halliwel decided to quit the band. The band was not the same anymore. In 2000, the remaining four Spice Girls released Forever, but it was far from being successful. The band then decided to split up and launch their solo careers. In 2001, Emma launched her solo career with the UK number one hit single, What Took You So Long? and her debut solo album, A Girl Like Me. It also included the hits What I Am, Take My Breath Away, and We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight. She wrote all the songs on the album that sold around 125,000 copies in the UK. In 2003, Emma released the hit singles Free Me and Maybe. In early 2004, she released the single I'll Be There and her second album Free Me. The album included sixties-style pop songs and was a bigger hit than her first album. In 2006, Emma released a cover of Petula Clark's sixties classic Downtown. The single reached number three on the UK singles chart. She also released her third album, Life in Mono. On the personal front, Emma has been linked to celebrities like Nigel Harman, Justin Timberlake, and 911 lead singer Lee Brennan. She has an eight-year-long relationship with CherryBlackStone lead singer Jade Jones.
