Daniel Radcliffe is a British actor. He is best known for his role as Harry Potter in the series of Harry Potter films.
Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born on 23 July, 1989 in Fulham, London, England. His father, Alan Radcliffe is a literary agent. His mother, Marcia Gresham is Jewish. She is a casting agent and has worked for several BBC films. When Daniel was just five years old, he wanted to act. His parents initially objected but soon gave in to his passion. In 1999, when he was 10 years old, Daniel made his acting debut as young David Copperfield in the BBC television production David Copperfield (1999).
However, it was in 2000 that Daniel got his big break when he was selected for the role of Harry Potter, the role of his life. He was to play the role in a series of big budget films based on the popular series of books by the author JK Rowling.
In 2001, Daniel made his film debut with a supporting role in the film The Tailor of Panama, opposite Pierce Brosnan, Geoffrey Rush, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
That year, Daniel also appeared in the first of the Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (aka Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). The film went on to be successful worldwide and Daniel became a star. His stardom continued to rise with the other Harry Potter films that include Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) , Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).
In 2002, Daniel acted in a guest role in the West End production The Play That I Wrote directed by Kenneth Branagh.
In 2006, Daniel acted in the television series Extras. He played a spoof of himself.
In 2006, when he was just 16 years old, Daniel became the youngest non-royal ever to have an individual portrait in Britain's National Portrait Gallery. His portrait, drawn by Stuart Pearson Wright when Daniel was 14, was unveiled on 13 April 2006 as part of a new exhibition opening at London's Royal National Theatre. The portrait was later shifted to the National Portrait Gallery.
Daniel has made more than 14 million pounds and is one of the richest teenagers in Britain, after Prince Harry and Charlotte Church. He was reportedly paid approximately £250,000 for the first Harry Potter film and around £5.6 million for the fourth film. He has a long way to go and make many more millions.
