Videos more videos Biography Emma Watson is a British teen actress who is best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on born 15 April 1990 in Oxford, Oxfordshire. Both her parents, Jacqueline and Chris Watson, are lawyers and got divorced when Emma was very young. She then grew up with her mother and younger brother in Paris and Oxford. She studied at Dragon School, a famous preparatory school in Oxford. She was very much interested in acting and acted in the lead role in several school plays, such as Arthur: The Young Years, The Happy Prince, and Alice in Wonderland. When Emma was seven years old, she won the first prize in a school poetry recital competition called the Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition. This brought her to the notice of her head teacher who nominated her along with her friends for the audition for the role of Hermione Granger in the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001). Despite the fact that Emma was competing with many other girls who had much more acting experience than her, she did exceptionally well and won the role. Her life was not the same again. Emma was just ten years old when the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released in 2001. She impressed fans and critics with her acting. As a result of her impressive acting, she was signed to reprise the role of Hermione Granger in the rest of the Harry Potter film series. These include Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). Emma’s performance in these films was well appreciated and she received many nominations and awards. In 2002, she received the Saturn Award nomination for Best Performance by a Younger Actor for her role in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. She also received the AOL Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In 2004, Emma served on a jury to select the 2004 teenaged filmmakers' "First Light" for the Film Award ceremony in Leicester Square in London along with Pierce Brosnan. When Emma was just fifteen years old, she appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue magazine and became the youngest person to do so. Emma’s only other work apart from her Harry Potter films is her role as Hermione in a television special mini episode of Harry Potter, The Queen's Handbag, which was aired in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday. Emma has expressed interest in playing characters other than Hermione Granger, such as a normal high school girl and is more likely to do much more than that.
